HOLY SH*t!!! ALMOST CRASHED
Glad you're okay. Lotsa torque can do that to an FR. A good rule of thumb is to have TCS/VDC on at least within 24 hours of the stoppage of any rain. If you don't want another scare like that, you may as well leave it on all the time except when you're on the track or on a lonely road.
Thanks guys. Im just gonna go trade in the Z for a honda hybrid since girls shouldnt be driving fast cars.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! RIIIIIIGHT. Like I said, ive only had it about 3 weeks & I never had a rear wheel drive car before. I doubt they have a racing school near me but i suppose it couldnt hurt to look for one. I think itd be cool to go to one anyway
I just thought it was weird cause Ive had the TCS off & have whipped turns [knowing there were no cars around] without losing control around the turn @ the same speeds. Maybe it was the rain. Either way, it was scary to lose it. Anyone wanna teach me?

Just be aware that if you have force induction that the TCS and VDC may not catch it in time to save your ***. I was fooling around one early morning on the way to work(in the rain, I wanted to see how much traction I had) I decided to give it a little gas and I swear I damn near flipped a *****. It happened in a blink of an eye and I'm glad it was 3:30AM. The VDC was on. The traction light flashed alright; after I was almost facing the other direction. Time for a wet performance driving course.

when my friend just got his z he was speeding through the u turn underpass underneath a highway bridge (if that makes sense) and he gave a little too much gas coming out and ended up facing on coming traffic

agreed - i turn my tcs off as soon as i get in the car every time.

P.S. Does this count as my first drift?

I fail to understand why anyone would turn it off on the street. It's there for your safety and the safety of others -- leave it on. To me -- if you turn it off on the steet, lose control of the car, crash into another car (person, property, whatever) -- I think that person would have an excellent case to sue no for gross negligence and recklessness.
Given your inexperience -- I would definately leave it on at all times.

i used to leave VDC on all the time.
however after moving to san diego, i leave it off all the time.
VDC are great training wheels to learn how to drift.
Its actually one thing about the Z i really miss - that great tail out attitude!
My TT being rear engined and all is a tuff car to drift. All that traction back there keeps it stuck down. When it does come out the car rotates more than it drifts(great for tightening your line), however when it comes far out, its usually too late - of course thats with PSM (porsche VDC) off, which of course i leave off all the time. What can i say...I'm a hooligan!

If having your Z drift/slide/etc is important to your fun of owning a Z, then by all means leave the VDC/TCS off. This assumes, of course, you are going to spend the time & effort to really learn how to control the drifts/slides.
I dont think the above, particularly the learning part, applies to most Z owners. For the majority of us driving with the safety stuff on is the only rational thing to do.
Personally, I like driving on curvy roads to the limits of adhesion (leaving some margin depending on the road & how far I can see around the curves). My base driving skills come from the 50s/60s when rear wheel drive was about it..........and we did not have the electronic gizmos. Therefore I kind of naturally get a feel for where the limits are. Plus I rode street biles for years where knowing the adhesion limits was mandatory. Point being my perception of a good aggressive driver is one who can take a car to its limits but not beyond. I've yet to have the vdc system kick on.

i had a spin out even with the VDC OFFF !! (wet streets)
took a turn too fast and hard, cars back-end swung out and did a 180!!! came to a stop right behind a car parked facing the opposite direction, it totally looked like something i intended to do james bond couldnt have done it any better hehe!! so what do i do? i played it off (people were arround) got out of the car like i just parked it heh!!
and actualy got compliments on the "manuver" lol

Just for the record me and bikerchicksi are e-engaged we plan on having two children where the boy rides in my Z and the girl rides in her Z. We came to the mutual agreement that if we have a 3rd child i would be allowed to get a 2nd wife with a Z as well.

I don't use it because I have driven ALL of my life without TCS on ANY of my vehicles, and as silly as it sounds, it interfering with me causes more harm that good.
I have specifically spent time learning what to do when this or that happens.
When this or that happens and I adjust for it, tcs kicks in and does its own thing, which throw my reaction out of whack and causes me to try to compensate in an unknown way.
I realize this places the blame SOLELY on me but I've never had an incident where TCS would have saved me. When it rains or snows out I don't want something making me overconfident, I don't want to think "eh, tcs will fix it".
I've never had a problem, and I don't see a reason to pay to fix a problem that doesn't exist.
But thats just me and anyone who think it will help in the slightest then I completely agree that you shuld leave it on until you WANT to break em loose.
