The bottom line is thier are cars which are ovibiously NOT fast but the drivers think that they are..
In my Z (well, I'm an "old man") I never get challenged by the likes of Civics, etc., but the one time I test-drove an STi it was like a "punk street-racer magnet"...man, there were Civics, SRT-4s coming out of the woodwork!! I was so relieved to take it back to the dealer!
That's one of the reasons I never want an STi...

I currently own a 2005 Civic EX 2 dr. I bought it in OCT 04 and I'm now ready for a Z. I thought I was a Honda head, but then I woke from my nightmare to realize I can afford a Z. It's too bad I'm so upside down on my inequity on the Civic. I'm so itching to get a Z. My money time line says I'll be ready for one in late SEP early OCT. Hey my B-day is OCT 11. A new Z would be the perfect gift! Right?
There are probably 10 (maybe as many as 15) wannabe tuner civics to every one seriously legitimate and respectably modified civic. I for one still miss my all-motor Si and the work I put into it. The B16 and B18 are respectable motors and the aftermarket is outstanding. The stock B16 shells out 100 hp per liter stock, not to mention the s2k's 120hp per liter (compare to our Z's 82 hp per liter). They are extremely mod friendly. An s/c or greddy turbo could easily bring an Si to over 300hp. For the car that it was (the Si) Autoweek, C&D, R&T, and the plethora of tuner magazines gave it incredibly high praises. In relation to sheer size of motor, whp, torque, suspension, or even style for that matter, a civic obviously doesn't stack up to a Z, but then it was originally designed for a wider audience with practicality in mind. The Z is in a whole different class. Amen.
Don't get me wrong, I get annoyed by disrespectful civic owners (even when I drove a civic) because many had no idea about what they were modding. Many put on the loudest universal tin can they could find, lowered their car, put on their ego and thought they were the "fast and furious." Once in a rare while I come across one done well, and it receives my respect.
Sorry for using your thread to stand on a soap box. Some cars have performance potential; some drivers don't have any. I hope I offended no one.

$1500 Civic Hatch
$4000 Motor Swap
$3500 turbo kit
...and you have a fast *** hatch. I am not saying that I prefer this route, but I am just stating the truth.

by 3 cars. wow, i used to be in the honda game and had a lightly modded h22 (although it is was in a considerably heavier prelude). was this 3 car loss from a stop? roll? do you have a auto or manual? do you have a right arm?
just kidding about the last one man!!!
like i mentioned earlier, i was in the honda scene, my buddy, had an awesome 94 civic - the thing was crazy - completely built gsr engine, port & polished, every internal upgraded, boosted and sprayed (although he never sprayed for fear of what would happen)... he even had a fuel cell put in the trunk, you understand that? - he had to pop the trunk when pumped gas - the kid was crazy. he had a tuning shop with some buddies and his car was commomly accepted as the quickest civic in VA. his vanity plates at the time was "BQQSTED".
i'm setting up my point, i swear, stick with me. i was talking to him while at work before i bought the Z. i was asking him about his thoughts on the choices i had in front of me. i could either buy a z and run it stock for a while, or i could take the downpayment money i saved and drop it into getting a legit boost setup for the prelude...
...this is how he explained his point of view to me, coming from what most would consider the pinnacle of honda tuning (his civic was truely well done - no rice, every dollar was spent towards quality performance, he sold his car to buy his girl's engagement ring, they're married now and she just hooked him up with a new f150)...
he said this "let's imagine i'm sitting at a stop light that has three lanes going strait, all in my direction. i'm sitting there, and i'm parked in the middle of the three lanes. now, lets say a guy in an awesome honda prelude pulls up next to me on the right side, the passenger side, and its beautiful, no rice, and its boosted, real quick car, would probably beat most other 4's and some 6's and 8's. and then lets say, for the sake of this example, the same exact guy pulls up to me on the left, drivers side, but he's driving a z - just a stock 350.
i respect the guy on my left more - he's in sports car, the other guy is in a fast honda. i just respect the z more - i see a young guy in a honda, and i think, 'yea, makes sense', i see the same guy in a z and think 'how's that guy in a z'.
so, i'm in total agreement with the z is in a different class statement - i see preludes and civics that are quick all the time, not the rice, but a guy who loves his car and made it fast, at great expense...but the problem with being in part of the car scene, and i can tell you from first hand experience, is that people rarely ever take you serious because of the type of thing that happened to the original thread poster today.
there i said it.
u know, i hate to say it, but i feel bad for the honda tuners. u gotta think to urself their either mexican, 16 yr old kids, or little asian guys who can only afford a cheap little honda. then want to make it look all neat and cool to their friends, and drive it like their hot ****. but then theres the guy who gets one , then spends 20 gs on it, which is ok i guess, but still. hondas will be hondas. and z's will be z's.

Post like this make me think less of 350Z owners.
Wow a ricer raced you, lets tell everyone!!!!!!!!!

If I had a modded civic I would know what I have a chance at and what I dont. And wouldn't waste my time, gas, rubber on one sided races. I think we as Z owners would do the same, us non-turbo guys proably wont even try to run a vette, Supras, ect... But we will play with Sti's, Evos, Stangs, ect...

well maybe by 2 and a 1/2
he has no interior just the seats, that thing is mighty fast. nothing but respct for it!
You guys might say i rather loose in a z than win in a honda, but you'll b going to sleep saying, did i just get beat by one. ? haha

i know that in the z i'll get a certain amount of respect when it comes to people having fun and playing on the street wanting a little race. in the z, the bar is always set higher than it ever will be in the honda - believe me, i know where i'm coming from on this one. if i lose in the z to a honda that's fine, there some really good tuners out there that drop a lot of cash in their ride and could beat me anytime anywhere, fine. but even after he beats me and the race is over and we drive off our seperate ways, the next time either of us pull up to a stop light against another car, i'll be considered a more serious threat than the honda, even though it just beat me. because people realize the z is in a different class and has more potential if the owner was so inclined to drop a bunch of cash in her. that's why i wouldnt feel bad...
but if everytime someone lost to a honda and had to put a bumper sticker on that said "my car lost to a honda 92' civic hatch"...then i think the doubt, disspointment, and shame would sink in a bit more, and i think you would have less people stomping on honda's for fear of losing and everyone knowing...
i have no doubt that other drivers of higher, different classes of cars, feel the same way about our efforts.

What my point was is that we should not make fun of a car with a lower class than the Z. I mean yeah its funny to see a car with neons and 15 different paint jobs, but dont point fingers and laugh, if its not your/our scene.
This is how i see it " you cant make everybody happy, so it might just be yourself".
