From what i read is that you should wait anywhere between 3k-5k to get your oil change done so the motor can be broken in properly. The oil that you have in your car now is not oil that you buy at Advance or auto zone.

I would change it. Use whatever regular 5w30 you want. I would NOT take it to the valvoline shop up the street. Do it yourself or take it to the dealer.

someone had their G35C oil analyzed at 551.

Decide for yourself. The breakin wear is good. But there's alot of metal in this oil sample and the oil is about what 3700 mile oil looks like. Again, your car is going to be fine whether you do it early or not. But there's is the info for you to make your own informed decision.

I would only use a shop like that if I *really* knew and trusted the people there. I do my own.

I'd wait the full 3000 . . . then ask the Valvoline guys to put in some Royal Purple. Here in KY, Valvoline Instant Oil Change is my tuner's largest customer of RP. The buy quite a bit and even took it to the lab to analyze.

I changed mine at 1,200.

The break in period is "over" (yeah yeah, I know, its not as clear cut as that) and I started driving it a bit more aggressively, I KNOW it wont hurt anything to change it early, and I know there is at least a small chance that a decent size chunk got knocked off during that first block of miles so for $35 (I do it myself) I can't make it worse, so why not?

Do you HAVE TO, no, not at all.

i think you should change it, cuz the oil you have now has low viscosity than the normal one

one more thing the oil you have now at the bottom of your engine has a lot of metal bearings(i don't know what you call it) that comes from the friction of the cylinder with the piston's wall of your engine since it's new.

It's not an absolute necessity to change it right now, but I wouldn't even wait for the 3k mark. I changed mine at 2500 (admittedly for no good reason) just for my own peace of mind.

Is it some type of super Double Helix Shell/Ferrari oil?? I didn't think Nissan's were that advanced.... and apparently, you must not change your own oil.

I just hit 1800, and I'm waiting until 3k+, at which point I'm going to use the recommended dino oil for the time I own the car. The manual actually says not to use synthetic, does it not? You will never get a straight answer on this topic from a messageboard. If you search enough you'll find compelling reasons to support changing it or not changing it out before the recommended interval. The manufacturer of your car says 3750. If they really thought your engine was going to explode if you don't change it at 500 miles, they'd tell you 500 to avoid the warranty claims. I think all of the paranoia and general voodoo practices about oil 1st changes are laughable. If you want to keep the car in warranty, the best thing you can do is follow your manual and have your car serviced by a Nissan dealer. In the event you do have a problem, this leaves them with little ground to start denying claims unless they can prove excessive abuse.

Oil changes ae cheap; if in doubt, change it.

If you trust the local guys, let them do it. Its an easy procedure.

10W40??? I'm surprised.

And I agree. To most people here they would never see the difference in the motor from changing it now or waiting. But it never hurts anything but your wallet to change the oil. It can't be done too often.

well, I've backed up my opinion with an oil analysis (above) on our engines. I'm not the one assuming anything.

Oil reports answer ALL the questions about the VQ. Breakin time, best time to switch to syn, when its too early, does syn help.. its all there. There are VQ35 reports on all brands of oil, all types of climates, all types of driving styles, oil drain intervals. (besides g-owners, this board, bobistheoilguy and maxima.org all have quite a few vq35 reports)

Yes change early right after break-in with a Dino oil.

Then next change after that can be syn.

Nobody was disputing your analysis, I don't know why you're so defensive. I don't think you understood my statement. Tell me you've read these threads and that I'm wrong about laughable scenarios people describe. I feel when in doubt, do what Nissan told you to do. Analysis or not, I'm still changing mine at the manufacturer recommended interval. *shrug* After buying around 20 new cars I feel that there will never be a huge measurable difference in changing your oil at 500 or 3000 miles the first time... which is why I choose not to be paranoid anymore with this car. I have been in the past, and I haven't seen evidence of it ever making a difference. Guess I've mellowed out in my old age, lol. The fact of the matter is that the enthusiasts represent a rather small percentage of automobile users and I don't see cars exploding along the highway. Hell, the guy in the office next to me just mentioned he should "really get an oil change"... said it had been 10,000 miles since the last one in his Corolla.
