i personally would never do it because it just shows other people that you want the look of the high quality brakes, but either dont have the money or care enough to upgrade. if you do something, i say do it right the first time, get the BBK.

I don't think so obviously (see avatar) Black with a red graphic on a redline.

1st say its the dumbest topic on here then you contribute your time to write a paragraph about what you think. Whos dumb now.
i call it dumb because who are you to say what someone does to thier car is ricey or not. somethings people do you might not like or do to the same car, but that is up to the individual and not you to make a post saying your "opinion" of what you think of a certain modification. i feel that is rather dumb!

Has anyone read Hemingway's book "For Whom the Bell Trolls?" Pretty good book.

Honestly, not that there's a definition for "rice" but if there was, it seems people around here wouldn't know it. It's OK to paint battery covers and washer fuild covers, but not calipers. It's OK to put on vinyl stickers outside and inside your car (more the better), but if you change the color of the calipers, it's rice. And so on...

Cracks me up.

Take a poll of those who have painted their calipers and ask how many regret it. I'll throw out a wild guess and say zero. Paint your calipers, you'll like it, it looks better. If you don't believe me, ask anyone else who has done it. If you don't believe them, leave them stock dark grey-brown.

all those things you listed are rice mods i wont bother with. I wont paint my calipers either because i'd rather have the real thing.

Not rice. I think it looks good, especially with Jason's graphics...... Of course mine are painted so I'm going to say that. With the Track Ray's those Small OEM calipers just didn't look right so I had to paint them. A BBK is on my future list of mods but in the meantime this was the best solution.

As stated, it all depends (as usual).

I never thought I would paint mine, until I saw a fellow members and how beautifull they looked, sanded and powder coated. And to make it funnier, he had the Brembos painted. So now, is that rice or not??

"Because it is not OEM"is stupid. Many mods we do to our cars are not OEM. So that doesn't hold water. I painted mine red because I have a redline, and put white lettering on it that says "350Z", and they look great. ANd anybody who ask me I am proud to tell them they are my OEMs, sanded and painted, and everybody says WOW they look great. So thats all I wanted. I am not fooling anybody, or trying to fool anybody, nor do I expect better performance. Just better looks.

Maybe we should get off the name calling. "Rice" is a very derrogatory term, and is on the eye of the beholder. It is childish and discriminatory. Per some of your definitions, you seem to "know" the intent of the other person. Unless you are psychic, I doubt it.

So I cant paint any part of my car because I am making it look like something its not? Or is it just calipers?

This makes no sense. Trying to fool people into thinking you have something you dont is dumb. If you know your stuff, you are not going to be fooled by some paint. And if you dont know your stuff, then who cares what you think?

The purpose in painting them has nothing to do with trying to fool people into thinking the calipers are anything other than stock (at least in my case). It's quite obvious that they're not a big brake kit no matter what color they're painted.

Now if I painted them then put a Brembo or StopTech decal on them that'd be all together different (Even thogh it is SO obvious they're not).

Rice is just taking the cheapest way out. In this case painting calipers instead of buying the real things.

It depends on what THEY want out of their car and what they want to do with it, and if they want to "personalize their cars (aka not ricing out)" to make their cars look different from the majority of the crowd without spending too much money, then so be it. The oem brembos aren't unique either due to the fact that ALL track models come with them, but if you bought the track model to stand above the rest of the Z's and look down on their *wimpy* brakes and your satisfied, $7,000 well spent. I personally didn't go with the track model because I knew I was going to be tearing off a lot of the oem parts for after market parts. Spent a little over $5,000 and I have rims, exhaust, intake, coilovers, and a 2way alarm system and I still have spent less money than you on just your car payments alone. If you aren't into mod'ing your car then the track is a good way to go, not flaming you for going with the track, it's a great car no doubt but you have to consider what the objective of other people are, and you should also have the decency to realize that not EVERYONE who can afford a Z has extra cash burning a hole in their pockets. Every man to his own, and once anyone personalizes their car I'm sure that they're proud of it, being ugly or not is a matter of opinion. As for me, I will be purchasing a BBK as soon as I have enough money in my "BBK Savings Account".

With that said, MOD AWAY BOYS AND GIRLS!!!
Very well said. You're a pretty young Asian guy from Cerritos, if I'm not mistaken from reading your earlier posts. I definitely know where you're coming from. Great counter-point to my slightly harsh statement. Point well taken on my part.

I could have bought a lower model and asked my parents for the difference in money for wheels and tires, but that wasn't the point. I think that people always say something along the lines of "Well I bought this car (for example 350z) and I saved 20k instead of buying an M3. Now I can TT the Z to beat the M3." This difference in price is well taken, but then you're left with a modded Z, which is essentially worthless except to you. When it comes time to sell my Z, the Track model will be worth more than an Enthusiast with nicer wheels and a real BBK.

I think the point of this post was to see how everyone's felt about painting OEM non-decorated calipers. Then it turned into a bunch of guys with painted calipers getting offended and trying to defend what they did. It's just a simple question, and we're all answering it in what we feel.
