NO I don't care. And yes, the term "Rice" is racist imo. The term "in poor taste" would be much more appropriate. And no I don't think it's in poor taste either unless you stick a Willwood or StopTech or other mnfg decal on them.

 

Don't care, but I just saw a Honda with painted calipers in the front and painted drums in the back, red of course. Painting calipers is one thing, but painting the drums is another. Now that is rice.

 

^ ha. There is no difference in my opinion. This is a pointless thread. One man's rice is anther man's mod. Why is painting drums "rice" when painting calipers not rice? Both are done to enhance the look, righ? So both should be looked at as the same. I personally do not like the look period, I won't go to say it's rice or not because Rice doesn't mean sh**t anymore, it's all a matter opinion. Do what you want.

The koreans called us americans milk drinkers. Guess they could smell it like we smelled their kimshee breath. Like you say, get over yourself. People in school and in Central America called me gringo. I laughed, and took it as my nickname. Took all the sting out of it, they didn't get the result they wanted, it broke the ice. Thin skin seems to be the order of the day.

 

"Ricer" was a term born of cars produced in Japan where rice is a staple food, not because Asians own those cars. Like "Spagetti Western" isn't realy a slur on Italians.
It almost singlehandledly started with modified Japanese built economy cars where North America received only watered down versions of the potent models sold in Asia. The mods did not make most of the cars particularly quick, but made for some really interesting interpretations on what makes a car look racy or sporty. Coffee can mufflers and combat wings have since spread to Cavaliers and Escorts so "Rice" is now become the universal language of the style challenged modifiers.
Like any style choice, there is a grey area between lame looking and really hot looking, so a lot of cars that some would car riced out, most would not. It is in the eye of the beholder altho pure rice is usually bad enough that most people would agree the mods look pretty bad. We have all seen the cars I am talking about.
I don't care for clear corners, repainting stock calipers to look like Brembos, or non functional aftermarket wings, but some people cannot stand their cars to look like 100,000 others and they do these appearance mods to individualize their rides. It is their car and they should do what they want with it, keeping in mind that some mods are safer than others, and the more high risk mods you pile on, the more you risk been identified with a funny looking vehicle. I wouldn't want people inflicting their tastes on me, but sometimes another opinion can help avoid going too far. Now I think painting the calipers to match the car's paint, especially paired with certain types of aftermarket wheels, looks awesome, but some might choke on that a bit.

I opened this threat to hear the opinion of others on here, whether they favor these types of modifications or not, and I respect the different point of views. However, I will not tolerate your personal insults on other posters in my threat. If I'd wanted this type of opinion, I would have posted, "what do you think these people should do?" You are welcome to state your thoughts on this subject, as long as you refrain from insulting others.

I'm all for an intelligent conversation, and many in this threat have interesting opinions, so I would like to hear them.

 

That's interesting how the name "rice" came about. I knew it had something to do with the eatable rice and its country of origin, but I didn't exactly know how it became a common car term. Well explained.

Now about the Cavaliers, would it then be called, "Ricevaliers?"

 

All I meant was the term could offend some people. I catch myself using the term all the time. And as a Harley rider for nearly 40 yrs there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with refering to a kow-a-sucky as a "Rice Burner" . I use to cary a bag of rice in my bags for the occasional "toss" under my buddies bikes.

 

Hahaha.....maybe I should have a bag of rice in my car for the occasional toss when driving around with my friends as well "uh yeah, John, that road was really slipery..." lol.

Hard to tell, as there are a variety of food that is eaten in America, specifically California. But the following may be possible: Hamburger. And a plausible conversation between two young car enthusiasts may follow in such manner: "dude, those red brakes on your import are soo riced-out. Yeah? Well the whale wing on the back of your domestic is Hamburger heaven....yo mama is hamburger heaven....your daddy is burger king. Your mama is so fat, she went out with high heels and came back with flip-flobs... "

 

I was close to painting mine, but then decided it's not worth it cause they just look like you painted them (it's obvious and looks cheap)...

 

i do the mods that i enjoy. period. to hell with what others think. i don't do my mods for other people.

Have them powdercoated instead. I think they look better and will not crack, chip or peel.

So here's the deal. I read the title, then began to read your post then got this far. You're full of $hit man. If you didn't care you would go on painting your calipers and not even bother making a post. Why bother?
