Who Did Nissan Copy The Most, Toyota Or Audi?

To this, I agree. I actually came to this realization just a couple of weeks ago in horror...the headlights do share much of the same shape. Since that time, I've been eyeballing new Celicas about as much as I've been eyeballing 350s (a horkin' lot) to ID all the differences. I must say they far outnumber the similarities (two, I think...). And, IMHO, the Z's qualities are much more appealing to the eye than the Celica.

The only comments I've heard about the 350Z resembling another car have been a few people who have said it looks like a Porsche (I assume they mean 911). That doesn't count all the internet opinions about it looking like an Audi TT. I pretty much dismiss those though since nothing could be further from the truth and they are mainly coming from bitter people that wanted the 350Z to be a retro copy of the 240Z.
I do think it has head lights similar to the new Celica but that hardly makes it a copy cat.

People I have shown the 350Z to often remark that it looks more German than Japanese. However, I didn't realize how much better the Z looks over the Audi TT till I saw the side by side pics.
I don't think it does the car or Nissan justice to say the 350Z borrowed its look from another street car. I think cars tend to look similar these days because of the current design and manufacturing parameters, like cd factor, safety, suspension components, placement of gas tank, engine, etc.
Did anyone see the film "Minority Report"? Now that's the next look for cars, although it's going to take till 2050

I spent a lot of time looking at the Audi TT in the past. I couldn't take the transitions from roofline to trunk nor the rather abrupt front end very seriously. I kept thinking it loked like a toy car. I just spent 4 hours walking around a Daytna Blue Base Model 350 Z. The Z car will make you forget the TT in a second. The Nissan designers got the flows right. It is going to make us all very happy.

A person of impeccable taste! Brickyard with Frost leather and AT just like mine.
I also agree with your comments about the Audi TT and really appreciated JmanZ's Photos showing the family resemblance to the 390. He had the good taste to not mention the fatalities in Germany resulting from too much speed and not enough downforce which caused Audi to put on a rear spoiler and make changes to the suspension on all TTs. Some journaliists in the US tested it after the changes and commented the changes transformed the car into a somewhat mushy handler, not what they had experienced before in testing the original. The Z will not have the same problem, I predict, especially with the aero pkg, even driven flat out in Germany. I'd like to see such a test in one of our mags, huh? Gotta go.
Boomer--passing out.

I think the Z looks like the TT. Actually, it looks more like the early concept TT (see below). How do I know all this? I own a TT now!
For all of you who knock the TT, please dont! Its a great driver's car with the expected german feel. It may not be the best quality piece of machinery (I've had some breakage issues), but it will out corner 90% of the cars out there, and almost all of the cars in its price range. I've driven this car for almost 3 years, so trust me, I know!
I hope the Z is a logical next car for me - if I lose the ability to throw it into corners safely at very high speeds, I'll be upset! I guess I wont know until my preorder comes in.

Well I drive one of the new celica's so I can see the resemblance in the front, mainly the headlights. I agree the back sucks thats why I put on a body kit. And I am now selling my gts for the Z which I already ordered. they definatly stole those headlights though...

I contend that when you see a 350 Z in person, you will not think of any other car. It sits there on its own as a unique vehicle. The pictures of TT's, Porsches and S2K's may well fuel an academic argument, but the actual presence of the car makes you say: "It's a 350Z."
