I sorta rushed into my Z. Because a year ago, I got it for 26.8k for a DB Touring 6 speed with Nav. I've found out that it has been through some undercarriage damage, even though carfax reported it as clear. I don't want you to fall into the same predicament.

yeah, say i got hit but took care of the bodywork at a friends bodyshop or any bodyshop for that matter. if i pay for it out of my pocket rather than reporting it to the insurance company. then the ppl such as carfax have no record. as long as it doesnt go to insurance or a dealer then it wont show up on carfax.

It's just a plain old black on black Z. My girlfriend has the digital camera stashed somewhere, I will probably get around to posting pics this weekend if my Zaino comes this week in the mail.

Default Proud Salvaged Z Owner

Thought I could give my 2 cents here...I bought a salvage titled 03 back in June of 04 for $18,000. It's a 5AT Performance and only had 1000 miles on it at the time. I was looking for a bargain at the time and planned on keeping the car for 5-6 years, so I wasn't worried about taking a hit on resell. I also commute 60+ miles per day so I figured why not rack up the miles on a salvage titled car. I now have 25,000 miles (almost out of factory warranty, which I do not have BTW) on the clock and have not had a single problem (except for grease streaks on the windows). Not even tire feathering!!! Still have the original tires. The car was hit in the rear so I was a little more willing to buy considering no front end/engine damage had been done. I was able to get full coverage insurance with my insurance company GEICO after having an inspection completed by one of their approved sources. Long story short, it has been a pleasure driving my Z for the past year. I have no regrets about buying a salvaged vehicle and would do it over again if I had the chance.

The only guaranteed way not to get scammed is not to give any money until you've got the real title in your hand with the seller's signature in all the right places, and you're holding all the keys to the car.

Usually the seller won't sign the title until the money is in his pocket, so there's always the possibility that he could take your money, then run away with the title. I suggest doing the transaction in a bank where they have "free" security. Just yell out "he stole my money" and he won't get more than 50 feet from the bank.

Never "buy" a car online. You can shop for it online, but buy it in person.

You definetly don't have to put up with a rude guy. He has "damaged" goods he put up for sale, the least he can be is helpfull, that is if he has nothing to hide. Most of it is how much can you trust the seller to tell you the truth. If you smell something, just walk away. Doesn't matter how cheap it is, it will cost you much more than what you saved in the long run.

Like I said, if you have 15K or 20K for a car, you can get great deals without having to take a salvage.

Out of curiosity, what kind of car are you driving now? What other cars have you owned or leased in the past?

Default Just bought a Z and thought I got a great deal....

I paid 22,800 out the door for a 04 base with 4000 miles. It was in perfect condition and in CA.

It was a repo and the lien was the only mark on the title.
