Any stock Z ran a stock Subaru STI?

The STi isn't so much faster then a Z that you should run and hide. If the driver of the STi doesn't get the perfect launch and you do, it will be an interesting race. Anytime I can get a friendly race in against one I will. If I lose, I'll give the guy a thumbs up and be on my merry way. Keep in mind there are plenty of people out there who buy a car and have no clue how to drive it. That goes for both Z owners and STi owners. There are also people who can drive, but may mess up from time to time. As long as you can run an STi without endangering anyone, I say go for it.

nice vid! good kill!
Nice vid. the cars are really close stock. I own a Z and have driven STi before. 4.7 0-60 requires some major revs and like integrity said, many people don't really know how to drive well. Those magazine #s are not attainable my most people on the street. First time I drove the STi, I was actually dissapointed in the turbo lag. Once the boost kicks in it is really fast, but my z has the power immediately. i love both cars and will be getting an STi for my winter beater
Ive Crushed a Stock WRX in my Z, (only mod is K&N Typhoon). At 140 I had about 4 Car lenghts on the best run (rolling 65 Start) and 2-3 on the worst run. Past 130 they just dont have the juice.

AWD has more friction, which will slow it down at high speeds when compared to a RWD car. but off the line and around tight twisties the sti is pretty damn fast. My coworker has a moded wrx, he always beats me in the tight stuff, but on the highway I think I have an edge. If I was a hot ****, I would do the guy driving the z over the guy driving the subaru!!
yeah, I drove an STi the day before I drove a Z for the first time and the STi felt much faster and more stiffly sprung. My $ would be on the STi all day long. But as already said, I ultimately chose the Z because for me it was a better balance of performance and looks and at a much lower price.

I knew a stock Z could get up to 160mph, but that's just not something you would do very often.

Oh, speaking of STi, I test drive one on memorial day. Although it was fast, I just don't really like it. It has a awkard shifting position and feather-weighted steering.
From Sport Compact Car:
2004 STI
Performance
0-30 mph: 1.6 sec.
0-60 mph: 4.9 sec.
30-50 mph: 1.9 sec.
50-70 mph: 2.6 sec.
Quarter Mile: 13.1 sec. @ 105 mph
Handling
Lateral Grip (200-ft skidpad): .91g
Slalom Speed (700-ft): 70.7 mph
Braking
60-0 Stopping Distance: 110 ft.
2003 350Z
Performance
Acceleration
0-30 mph: 2.2 sec.
0-60 mph: 5.8 sec.
30-50 mph: 2.2 sec.
50-70 mph: 3.1 sec.
Quarter Mile time: 14.0 sec.
Quarter Mile speed: 99.2 mph
Handling
Lateral Grip (200ft skidpad): 0.88g
Slalom Speed (700ft slalom): 70.2 mph
Braking
60-0 stopping distance: 113ft
so, from a dead stop the STI should leave a Z for dead in a big way all the way to at least a quarter mile and by almost a full second at that. Both the 0-60 and quarter mile times give the STI nearly a second advantage. Some of the roll-ons are a bit closer but still the STI had the advantage so if you've got a Z and want to run an STI you better hope he misses a shift or something.

The reason the sti feels so fast compared to the z is not only the slight hp difference but the torque curve on the cars. The z has a very linear torque curve to make it more of a civilized sports car while the sti has turbocharged power that gives it the peaky rush that it has. Plus magzine times can vary and i would say the average owner on the street would run very low 13s at about 103 and the z owner would run about 14.0 at 100. You cant look at waht the pro drivers do. The z will lose from a stop easily. From a roll they are close but the has the edge because of the awd vs rwd idea and becasue of the gearing. They have pretty much the same hp to the wheels (240).
from a stop the STI should win... but from a roll it should be an interesting race. I raced one when I had over 400lbs of passanger weight vs a STI with about the same amount (maybe a little more but no more than 40lbs) FROM A ROLL and I was walking him about an inch every other second before I cut it at like 110mph. I know he would have taken me from a stop though.
From a roll I would have to say its a drivers race... if you can really even say that when going from a roll... However cars that come with turbos are usually cheaper to mod ($ per hp wise) so watch out for modded STI's.
