Default is the extended warranty worth it?

i'm getting an 05 enthusiast in a month or so and i'm wondering if the extended warranty is worth the extra $$$ and how much it exactly is. i don't plan on modding the engine much, just the suspension, rims, and appearance. thanks.

Hard to say, but in my experience I would say yes. My previous car broke on me after 4 1/2 years of stability. Luckily I had the extended warranty and was able to get it repaired for free. Then I sold it and got the Z

The extended warranty is around $1k give-or-take. For me it was worth it. It gave my wife piece of mind and we were able to get the warranty for only like $250 (they didn't want the warranty price to make them lose the sale and we were ready to walk).

The extended warranty covers additional items than the factory warranty if I'm not mistaken. Not much but a few extra items.

You can buy the extended warranty at any time PRIOR to the factory warranty expiring though so you can think it over and get it later if you want.

Yeah, Mine was around $1200 for 100K Bumper to Bumper (All Mechanical Probelms).

Just be carefull, Most have some stipulations like keeping a strict maint schedule.

I change my Oil Religously at 3K, every time to keep in my warranty contract.

Check to see if modding car voids extended warranty if you plan to mod it...

I can't say for sure but they'd be foolish to turn away your money. I think it costs a bit more to buy the longer you wait, but you should still be able to get it.

I didn't get it since I basically ripped my car apart. "Warranties" are in place to statistically allow the seller to make more money. The majority of cars do not ever fully excercise their full extended warranty and more than cover the ones that do. They offer this for a reason! To make money!

The problem with most extended warranties is that they are through some third party, not Nissan. Say you buy a five year warranty but the company doing the warranties goes out of business.. you're SOL! If you plan to mod your car then you're probably going to void some part of the warranty, so read the fine print. The extendend warrenty is good for the seller because the dealer is getting a huge kick back for each policy they sell. In my opioion, if you take care of your car, the extended warranty is a big waste of money. Just my 2 cents

I look at extended warranties as insurance. They are betting that nothing significant will go wrong. You are betting that something will go wrong _beyond_ the warranty. As a business, they will price the product to make a profit and a significant portion of the cost of this insurance will go to the "finance" person who sells the product. Once you have purchased this insurance, the insurer has no clear incentive to replace a part and may insist that the part is working adequately unless there is catastrophic failure. The insurer may not be financially viable when you need the warranty work. The insurer has your money for two to three years before they must make payouts and the insurer is investing that money for two to three years. Now that is how a business person looks at this product. So who should buy this product; knowing that the odds are that the purchaser will, on average, lose money on this deal?

If you cannot afford the cost of a catastrophic failure of an engine or transmission then you should consider purchasing insurance. You are at a disadvantage as you have no idea what the proper price should be for this product since you are not in a competitive buying enviroment.

If you are paying cash for this car, by no means would you be buying insurance. You will be taking the $1000 and investing it for two to three years. Over your lifetime this is many $1000 deposits.

I do not purchase extended warranties of any kind on any product. I am self insuring and the odds over a long time period and a large number of products favors this approach... BUT I can afford a catastrophic failure knowing that in the long run, odds are that I will recover my costs.

In a similar manner, term life insurance is great when you just get married and have no assets, but is not absolutely necessary when you have built up adequate assets to protect your family in the event of catastrophic life failure! (And yes, I am not talking about using life insurance in a trust).

Nissan offered me exstended warrenty, 100k miles or 5 years, it cost me 2060 dollars, they told me if i never need to use this exstended warrenty i get my 2060 dollars BACK!

I asked well, what if a break light goes out and it needs to be changed, all of a sudden a cheap repair means i dont get my 2060 dollars back? he said no you would still get your money back hehe.

So its up to you, i feel better this way, i did part with 2k but i will either get the money back or i will be happy i spent it becuase then i will need it.

Up to you really.

added this, its a 05 enthuisast AT base.
