As it gets warmer here in lovely NJ, I REALLY wish that Nissan had the insight to make a power sunroof available as an option.
WTF were they thinking??
I know Nissan was hell bent on maintaining rigidity and stability, hence the rear strut brace.....But a sunroof would make this car 10x more enjoyable...
If I can get out of this lease EARLY...I'm gettin' a Z Roadster!!

The roof of the Z is too small to have a sunroof, in terms of length from front to back. There would be no place in the roof for it to slide back into, unless they had it slide backwards above the roof(rather than seating into the roof)... like the late 90's Mitsubishi Eclipses had. But they can't do that either, because then if you try to open your hatch with the sunroof open.... you would break your sunroof.
The only viable option would be to have a moonroof that only lifts up, is completely detachable, and doesn't slide back.... or to have T-Tops. T-Tops would result in a loss of some frame stability. The closest thing to a Z with a sunroof that you'll get is either a Z Roadster or a G35 Coupe with the sunroof.

I think T-Tops, like Pop-up Headlights, have gone the way of the Buffalo...extinct...I did enjoy having the T-Tops in my '93 MR2 though...
As far as SHO-TIME's comment...No offense, but is the air quality that bad in Southern Cali, that you get that much dust and smog coming thru a sunroof?? With my old MR2, It really wasn't an issue....and having the AC on drains power and hinders MPG....Don't get me wrong...on a blazing hot day...It's AC ON and windows closed! But on those in-between days or cool summer nites....A sunroof would be VERY welcome!

But then there are a couple of members in So Cal who have custom order sunroofs on their Zs. You may want to contact Spacemanspiff or Cocos350z if interested.

A sun roof would make the top frame weaker, glass being weaker than metal. And for turning/drifting the top frame helps, not that everyone is into it that hardcore. But the Z is a sports car, and wasn't made with a lot of luxary options, the g35 is another story. If you really want a sun roof get the custom ones. Make sure they do a good job, because I heard a few horror stories of rain leaking in.

get a convertable if you need the wind that bad
sunroof on the coupe would
make the Z look stupid when it's open because of the curved roofline, it'd have to slide out in some lame way
would make the car heavier
would make the top not as rigid
would cost more

Sunroofs & T-tops are over-rated. I've had cars with both and like sentry65 is saying they have their drawbacks. They are also good avenues for water to get into your car years down the road.
