Has anyone taken out the spare & jack and moved the battery into the back? I think this would get the Z a bit closer to the 50/50 weight distribution and makes its noise somewhat lighter...I think the freaking battery is like 45 lbs

By the way, base model weights about 3,153 lbs after removing the spare and tools -- not bad I think, but it would be nice to get another 50 lbs off, maybe tilton flywheel+clutch. Stock 17+Potenza is 48-50 lbs each, front or rear (I weighted them). Any one know the numbers for the Rays + tire?

Battery is 37 (38 with terminals). I have mine under the passenger seat right now, but I think I'm gonna move it all the way to the back along with the coolant tank and the washer fluid. Tilton flywheel and clutch isn't 50 lbs off, maybe 30.

Have you noticed any improvements regarding understeer with the battery moved behind the seats? Does the nose feel any lighter? I

I think with the battery in the back and minus the 30lbs with the Tilton flywheel, it would be around 67lbs off of the front end. Do you think this helps improve steering or does it make it too light for the front end to get good grip? (I see you have both of this setup.)

Hmm, this is kinda tricky. With the spare removed and the Amuse exhaust, there is so much weight out of the rear end that my car knows only oversteer. It oversteers when on throttle, off throttle, in neutral, in the wet, in the dry. Hell, I left a 20 foot patch when I dropped the hammer in 2nd at 30 mph. Now, I've also got the Hotchkis bars and the Teins as well, so the whole feel of the car is very different. The mods you list would not make the front end too light. I think the only way you could make the front end too light would be to move the engine.

The way my car is though, with the Tilton, the juice and the weight out of it, it's mostly like a point and shoot cannon that also corners very well.

Since the base is lighter, is it any faster than the other Zs? Or does the lack of LSD take away the advantage.

Yeah...I know it's an old thread

From a launcht he LSD should really help the other models. As far as being lighter, i think the difference between the base and touring is about 80lbs or so, which isn't that much difference.

FWIW
I got that number by taking the listed wieght of the Enthusiast model 3197 and subtracting the weight of the base model 3188 = 9 lbs.

lol, ok -- i'm trying to rack my brain to figure out what else might be included then, 'cause the vLSD is quite a bit heavier than 9lbs.

The open diff still has weight associated with it. Are you saying just the Vlsd core weighs 20+ lbs? I have no idea I've never taken it appart. I'd guess the entire pumpkin to weigh in at around 50-60 lbs.

Maybe your scales are off.

I've weighed my car at every national and divisional auto-x I've been to this year. My car weighs in at between 3027 to 3075 at its current setup Which is more than 100 lbs lighter than stock with tools mats removed. My 03 Z was right around the same weight. averaging around 3050.

I'm running Ti single outlet exhaust and race wheels/tires that weigh 42 lbs each. Stock enthusiast wheel/tires weigh 55 lbs each.

A stock enthusiast with no gas no tools/spare no mats should be right around 3150 - 3200.

According to UPS (and my shipping fiesta to and from 350evo) a completely assembled rear end weighs in at 130lbs (no fluid). A bare housing weighs about 90lbs.

I was talking about just the VLSD core (which in and of itself is sealed with fluid on the inside).
