Sorry for the delay. The base of the PNP2 is at the back of the unit. It fits perfectly & snug so that it does not rattle.

Do you have any insight or details on your install? I don't even see a base that yours is plugged into in your pic. Sorry for all the questions.

I'm putting my Apex'i Rev Speed Meter in there and mounting it right in the middle at the back of the storage space. But I put my wallet in there sometimes when I leave it in the car.

Yes, the non bose system will also work by using a FM modulator or hardwired via a Audiovox SirsWB. Since your HU is not SAT ready the sound qualty will be comparable to FM stereo w/o any hiss vs. CD quality. It's still good:

Cell phone, work id/badge, towlettes (god only knows what is on the hands of the passenger!), gum, etc...
I put cd's in there temporarily, like the ones i'll be switching in and out (of course the door stays open), but I usually use one of the compartments behind the seat for CD storage.

You can also put CD's in that plastic rectangular holder that's attached to the left side of the driver seat (fits about 4 or so with the case)...There's one on the passenger side too.
