Default my z vs a tire carcass

I was headed down to galveston to a z meet and my car got nailed by a flying tire carcass. I was following a twin turbo g35 on I-45 when it happened. A crv in front of him shot it at his bumper, it hit him then went under his car. I was about 20 feet behind him cruising around 80 mph and his car shot it up at me. I just had a new bumper installed and painted a few months ago and now this sh*t happens.

no, it wasnt his fault. Its just part of driving on roads in houston, they're full of debris like that.

oops, I thought u ment the CRV shot it out initially.

Im not sure about Houston... but here in Toronto, if you are able to take pics of the debris, before and after damage, the city MAY pay you for it.

If that were the case the state owes me about 6 tires and several bumpers.

You were 20 feet behind him driving at 80 mph!? Sorry to hear about your damage, but it sounds like you were a bit too close, as that would give you less than 1/4 of a second to react to anything the guy in front of you did.

Sorry to hear that, but it's tough to react at that speed while minding the safety of other drivers. Better luck next time.

I'm from houston too, and I see pieces of tire almost everyday when I'm on 45.

Hah.. you got off lucky compared to me. About 2 weeks after I had bought my 04 Z in Houston... A friggen 18wheeler tire laying in the freeway ate my front bumper, cracked my radiator, and broke a number of other things around there. The damage was about 2500 dollars which my insurance paid minus the deductable but it still sucks. I didn't have time or room to steer away from it... the suv in front of me just went over it with no prob b/c it was high enough off the ground... but i was blocked in on each lane from left side to the right side. Sucks. The dealrehip guy told me those huge tires .. the re-treads which those big rigs like to buy instead of new tires.. they have steel in them which makes them do alot of damage to low cars.

unfortunately, its true. As far as I know, its exclusive to rigs. I wouldn't think folks would want retreaded tires for their passenger cars (i guess its possible, though).

That happened to me 2 weeks ago. The clear bra saved it luckily. I still need some remover to get the tire marks out.

Damn, sorry man. I hit one of those rig tires before on the freeway one night, and I guess I fared better somehow compared to those pics...

Actually i was unlucky twice... the last incident was my new 04. But i had bought a new 03Z the year before *traded up b/c they fixed lil annoyances and other things*
Anyhow.. in my 03.. a dumb pickup truck that didn't secure his cargo lost his mattress .. like a bed mattress right in front of me.. I went completely over it but somehow it didn't do any damage except a smudged paint smear crap that i just buffed out from the bumper and side skirts. Man.. I'm hexed with the Z. But I still love it.

Seems like constant dodging around here from Big Rig retreads (road aligators they call them) and beer cans and assorted garbage flying out the back of the rednecks pickup trucks.

It's where you have someone cut new treads into a balding tire. You have to have enough of a base left on the tire to do it though. Mainly, you will see them on big rigs. The next time you see one, take a look at their tires, and they will tell you if it can be done or not.

Yes, they do. Less than $10 if I recall correctly. Had to buy one for my new car because the dealer claimed that they don't include them on the new cars now (2005).
