That is what manual mode is for. You can shift it any time you want. I like having the choice of having the computer do it or doing it myself errors and all. I originally was going to get the 6MT until the dealer got me to try the 5AT. In the beginning I had no intention of getting the 5AT but in the end I got it because it was the first AT I've ever driven that I felt performed just as well or better than a MT. To tell you the truth, the only time I use manual mode now is when I'm bored or just want to have fun. For traffic, hills and performance driving I usually leave it in auto mode. When the tranny learns the way I drive, it just shifts better than I can do manually, in my opinion. When I'm driving in traffic or the hills in The City, I really don't miss having a manual clutch. I think all my future cars will some type of sequential automatic trannny or a CVT. I sort of like the "borg" man integrated with machine bit. I can almost just think when I want to shift and it will do it. Yeah, a standard transmission is still fun to drive and occasionally I might take a MT out for some spirited driving but I just don't want to deal with the MT daily when the 5AT does just as well..
