Default Chipping RooF!!! RANT!!!

Ok, Now i know nissan paint is bad,... But geezus.. has anyone else other than me have rock chips on the roof of the car. I have 6 chips on the roof that went through the paint and primer and is now have rust on there.. and i just noticed all of them i have an 05 with only 3700 miles on it.. and it is really upsetting me...
I expected bumper and hood chips.. BUT NEVER EVER thought it would be on the roof...

Default This is becoming a problem.

Were you driving behind a truck hauling gravel? Too many people are complaining about their paint chipping. When I had my 94 RX7, enough people complained that Mazda actually fixed many cars. Some cars were stripped down to the sheet metal and repainted.

I haven't gotten any chips in my roof yet but because of the shape of the car I have noticed that sometimes when someone throws a pebble up in the air or some debri I hear a "whack" on the roof. I think because of the aerodynamics and the low ride height of the car the roof is just an easy target.

Mine came with one on the roof...going to see if the dealer will fix.

It's still black so I think there's a little paint there, but the clear coat is totally gone.
I hope it doesn't start to rust...

Zcarboy - with all those cars you've owned, why in the world would you buy a neon? Unless it was one of those SUPER neons that every teenager is driving now? Which still sucks by the way

For all those cars I've own was back my day, most of them were used. As for the Neon is my beater which I had before I was married. I am going to be selling it now this summer. It was not a bad car to get around in cheap.

B/c I speed alot .. as in often and also by # of miles over the speed limit.. I have a few chips to the paint. I think speeders are going to have more of a problem than non speeders... esp the severity of the chips. Just definatey try to stay away from all big trucks with rock throwing capabilities.

I've had this happen on almost every car. I had a huge rock slam into the wind deflector on the top of my Xterra yesterday...

I was on the freeway a few weeks ago and although there weren't any trucks in front of me I got hit by a few loud "thunks" that must have been rocks. Recently I found the result...2 big chips on the roof where it's down to the metal and starting to rust.

How can you repair this? Or can you just find some protectant to seal the metal from being exposed?

I won't even begin to talk about the acne that my front bumper has.

Sorry to hear about the chipping problems... that's why at about 4k I installed 3M's clearbra on my bumber, entire hood, mirrors, and half the roof. It's not perfect looking, as in orange peel appearance, but from 5ft away you can't see it. I use my Z as a daily driver thru heavy traffic at times, trucks, rigs, etc., etc.. It's nice knowing I have a thin elastomer protecting my clearcoat from sand, grit, pebbles and large bugs. My front end still looks nice at 23k... It's a small investment for a lot of protection.

I also have some major rock chips on my roof. Only 18K miles on the car. I have never had this problem with my previous cars and agree the quality of the Nissan paint is the worst I have personally experienced.

i drive at night alone...
no one around... and in my morning and afernoon commute to work is approx 1/2 mile... with no traffic

i am very very upset...
i drive 65 mph on the freeway...
get about 27 mph...
and drive really really slow.
I just don't understand why

It is wierd though.. i have no chips on the hood and only mild chips on the front bumper.

Well, it's one helluva aerodynamic car. Driving on the freeway in a downpour....not a drop on the rear window.
