Whenever I get out of my car, I hold onto the outside handle as I get up (off of the cloth seat) and then just close the door. Works for me, but YMMV

Some cars shock more than others. My Z doesn't shock me as much, then again I don't drive it that much in the winter.

Take some wire with clips on each end & ground yourself to the car. When you get out, unclip yourself.

Buy aftermarket leather seats. Or do the holding the doorhandle trick, that should work.

i just think of the shock as my cars love for me so when i go to pump gas i don't get lit up haha, any of you ever seen the video of someone pumping gas and all of the sudden they burst into flames because of a spark, z's are protective of their owners

Search is our friend.

I use a metal key to lightly touch the car door after I get out and am not in contact with the car anymore. You feel the charge exiting, but you don't get the sting.

What does the YMMV stand for? Where do all these abbreviations come from... is there a quick reference lookup? heh.. anyways, thanks to whoever answers this silly question.

I acutally have done that...and guess what?? didn't work too well. I grounded the other end under the driver seat. Unless there some other place you can ground.

Yeah, that makes a more concentrated point of current, and still shocks the crap out of you. In fact, while my finger didn't get the full jolt, I felt the shock halfway up my arm, and the spark looked about 5 times brighter.

The best thing to do is to touch the door frame, or kick plate, as you are getting out. You stay grounded, then when you shut the door there is no discharge.

I have to make the habit of touching the kick plate now. I thought it was just me that gets the static shock.

I do the "touch the back to the top of the window frame" exit, but maybe I'll just use my hand there to help me get out.

Sit in your car and drive it more. It's exactly what all the members are saying: that's your car getting mad at you for leaving the driver's seat!
Oh yeah mine used to shock me too, but then after going around enough corners with minimal braking if any at all, she sort of settled down.
