Brakes need replacing after just 25K?
I was told after getting my oil changed that I needed new brakes for $238.
Doesn't seem right. My brother's car (MR2 Spyder) has 80K on it and he never had to replace his brakes.
What's the deal? Am i just getting ripped off or what? No, I don't use them excessively or anything. They aren't squeaking, they work fine, and the rotors are not dug into.
Please help.

Your brakes lasted longer than mine. I replaced the front pads and rotors and around 16K and the rear pads and rotors at about 33K. If they aren't squeaking or look worn you should get a second opinion. They may just be trying to take advantage of you.

With enough hard braking (and frequency of), you can run the pads out in that amount of time. You should be able to see how much meat is left on the pad in order to determine if you're just being fed a line...

Well, you got double the life I did. I had to have new pads AND new rotors at 13k. I complained to Nissan and got the cold shoulder until I filed a formal BBB complaint. All of a sudden, everything was taken care of under warranty. If you look at any of the G35 forums you will find premature brake wear is an issue for them and Infinity actually extended a brake warranty for the G35 for 3 years/ 36k miles. To be honest though, 26k for new pads in a sports car is not all that unreasonable -- replacing (not resurfacing) rotors at that mileage is another matter.
I just replaced my brake pads and resufaced the rotors at 23k. I know its probably average as others on here have to change it before 23k. Then again it could be the driver. I installed hawk performance brake pads and hopefully they'll alleviate the brake dust and last longer.

25k miles is alot. Got mine replaced at 12k. I recommend Hawk hps. Got them online cheap and took it to a private shop where they charged me $40 for install. Came out to $125 total. OEM pads doesnt last long. The Hawks have over 15k miles now and there is at least 80% pad left.

I replaced my fronts at 18K. I drive hard and brake hard. The whole job took less than 20min. The Z is quick and heavy with big sticky tires. Brakes wear just goes with the territory

PS - the MR2 - which I quite like, weighs in around 1800lbs and its just not going to be doing 80 going into thrid gear. Poster child for long lasting brakes.

Hey there i have 33k on my z and im getting squealing everytime i press the brakes lightly at hard braking there is no squealing. My pads didnt look that worn when i took a look the other night, what could be the prob? ALso if i was going to replace my pads with aftermarket pads (more sport driving oriented) would they be harder on the rotor surface than OEM ones? Thanks
