Default HELP! I took my car to the dealer and they said i need $500 worth of parts!

so i took my 04.5 5AT touring coupe to the dealer for an oil change. They told me i need:

1. new front brakes - 275
2. power steering fluid - 175
3. air filter - 30

What should i get done through them, and what should i get seperately? any aftermarket front brakes for 275?

can i get this **** cheaper, if so, from where?

HELP!

that's one expensive power steering fluid they're charging you. and for front brakes. are they gonna replace the rotors also? hawk pads are way cheaper than that. you can get them for $70. $30 for air filter? It'll better be K&N filter

wow, sounds like a rip off.

Just get the Hawks break pads, it's like $60 or so, much much better than the stock ones. Air filter, you can get the K&N drop in, or just get the JWT pop charger. Not sure what needs to be done about the power steering fluid, but that price seems crazy. You can just buy it at AutoZone if you just need the fluid to refill.

Typical stealership tactics!

If its an OEM air filter, you can get one for about $10-15, if they charge for labor on installing it, tell them to GFY.

GO **** YOURSELF, Just rememebr GFY! DYI and it will cost about $110 and thats with a $40 K&N drop-in!

power steering fluid @ auto parts store. Filters are cheap too. Fram makes a good filter to, probably about 20 bucks. Dealer is probably charging for labor on the brakes. Brakes can be hard to do if you are not mechanically inclined or have the right tools. If you can do the labor yourself, you would save about 200 bucks or more.

^^^^usually all the stuff listed is not covered by warranty. It is considered "normal wear and tear". Only if they malfunction, are they covered by warranty.

brakes pads will not be under warranty if they are worn out from normal usage.

ok.. so i told the dealer not to touch my car. thanks guys!

so i am getting a generic filter for $5.
im going the see what the power steering fluid deal is... hopefully i can get it and replace it myself, as long as only the fluid is the problem
brakes... i need to find out if the problem is the pads, or the rotors too, im assuming is the pads... because my rotors look fine.

its sad... to us, our cars are exotics... to the dealer, our cars are the same as a sentra.

To the dealer all we are is money, nothing else. They wanted to charge me 200 bucks to install my JDM smoked reflectors. Something that took me half an hour to do....hmm $400/hr labor, i will be back with all my problems, but i will bring my own vaseline so it wont hurt as bad....
