For $80, you'd think it would be him that gets the job, not the car.

timing chains don't get serviced.......in fact they don't ever get touched

"Anyone who buys what dealers tell them without doing their own research deserves what they get"

I TOTALLY disagree - any honerable establishment would never suggest something so blatantly BS in the first place - this same thinking is as good as "it's not a crime unless you get caught"

I would tell those idiots that the $80 they made off of you cost them any future work and you'll be sure to tell everyone you know how reliable they are so that they might lose some more business. I've been doing business with my Nissan dealer since 1974, since they've been fair with me. Think how much business they would have lost for $80 if they screwed me over 31 years ago.

Timing chain service is a form of pulling your chain for $80

i wish i had a place to trust where i live in austin tx. Id gladly pay someone to work on my car if i knew it was done right but sicne i cant i DIY all the time. Sometimes its rewarding sometimes it isnt but i think most DIY'ers got that way from not being able to trust stealerships. The only place ive ever been able to trust is an acura dealership and acura sells nothing but chic and old people cars imo.

Well I trusted the service rep when he said that I missed a timinng chain service at 22k miles, I've been going to the same guy for 3 years and he has been very honest and was a stand-up guy. He called me at lunch time and I took his word for it that it was a recommended service, i even asked him if it was on the maintenance program list and he said it was (which turned out to be the dealers list not nissans list). I got back from lunch and did some research and called him back saying that i didn't see it in my owners manual he explained that it was a dealer thing. When I talked to the manager of maintenance he said that what they do is flush the engine with oil and that it has nothing to do with servicing the timing chain. They lied to me. and I did do my research. Once he told me that he lied to me, I told him I do not expect to have to pay the extra 80$ and that if I did have to pay it not only would he lose my business but he would lose the business of my father, my fiancee, my sister and 3 of my co-workers. He said the best he could do is take 20% off. So for $60 worth of lieing, he lost 6 customers.

Care to share the "stealers" name? and you should call NNA and file a formal complaint; that is so wrong on so many fronts.

In May, the water pump on my daughter's Taurus died. I had it towed to a shop to be repaired. Later in the day, the manager called to give me the estimate. As he went through the items I made note of one thing - $69 for computer diagnostics. When I questioned him about the "computer diagnostics" charge he sheepishly agreed with me that they didn't need the computer to see that the water pump was shot. My guess is that they put that charge on every car that comes in to the shop. Needless to say I didn't pay it and I'll never go back there.

I'm sure more than a few Nissan dealerships have managed to charge uninformed Z owners for the Cabin Microfilter replacement as part of some XXX Mile Service package. (BTW, we don't have one in our Z's).

Thanks. I just sent them a request for explanation. I HATE it when dealers rip off a fellow
Z owner, actually any owner. Anyone care to bet they blow off my request?

Also watch out for the "POWER STEERING SERVICE". Some dealers will try to convince you that your power steering fluid is dirty and needs to be changed.

This happened to me at a Ford Dealer. The dealer wanted $89 !! I told them I could do it with a turkey baster for less than $5

My business partner drives Mercedes Benz cars, and MB changes all fluids on a regular basis as part of service. Of course they charge accordingly (he buys used) and I've told him before that they are wasting his money.

When you requested information, what did you ask? I hope it was along the lines of "What is the 22k mile Timing Chain Service" But either way it looks like the email went to the internet sales, I hope it makes across the parking lot to service so they will think twice about lieing again.

That is what I asked - just kind of a blind question. No response as of yet.

I would take your receipt and have a sit down with the Dealership General Manager. I would also make sure the Service Manager is there as well. There is NO maintenance/service required on the timing chain period.
