Question Your experience with Mercury Insurance?

Hey guys I just recently bought my first brand new 2005 350Z and after the shock of the progressive monthly quote for coverage(189...from 89 on my z28) I started to shop around. Mercury Insurance actually quoted 130 a month for full coverage. I read some reviews on the web from 2001 for people who were unhappy with them but saw on some posts here that many people have been with them for a long time. I like the payment but don't want to get shafted so if you have had any experience with them please let me know. This is a great website and I can't wait to post much more. Thanks,
Sincerely,
Barry Maurer

I would stick with a good quality insurance company that will be there for you when something happens.

In the end, you get what you pay for!

I have USAA and pay 817 a year ($68 a month)for my Roadster!

Have had it for years, though I've only paid them. Haven't had to file a claim, etc. All of them seem to be pretty good at taking your money, heh.

can be a pain the *** to deal with...

I had an acciden a few years ago...other person was at fault, but the other person had mercury insurance too. They wanted to put it as a 'no fault' accident (appear on my record with other insurance companies). Tons of miscommunication with the repair shop as well.

Not overly impressed...when i moved up to seattle I changed to progressive

Perfect timing for this question! I've had Mercury for 24 years (16-40). I think I'm their best customer cause I've never had a claim with them in all that time. However, someone sideswiped my wife last month and is disputing fault. So this is our first claim with Mercury. We found out that the agent who was originally assigned to us quit without notice (no wonder she wasn't returning our calls!). I must say though that the new agent is on top of it. She has contacted the other party (who had avoided the other agent), and submitted a claim with her insurance for our deductible. She has already paid the bodyshop (minus our deductible) so we can bring in the car to be fixed. She feels that the dispute will end up in arbitration cause the other party won't take fault. Really pisses me and my wife off cause it's pretty obvious what happend by the marks on the cars (the agent agrees). Anyway, the jury is still out on how this claim will be resolved.

BTW, I did a comparison with Geiko - for the same coverage they want $370 more per year than Mercury. Nuff said.

I can sort of relate... I called the local Mercury agent twice in order to get a quote, but no returned calls. Went with a better insurance company anyway

I haven't heard anything bad about Mercury, but I haven't been a customer either. I've had bad experiences with All-State. My wife's Honda Civic was rear-ended and they wouldn't total the car. In order to fix it, they wanted to cut the car in half and reweld a new rear section. I was F-in pissed!
To make a long story short, I wouldn't agree to fix it in that manner and the Honda dealership wouldn't fix it the way the insurance adjuster suggested. The car finally got totalled.
Moral: All-state SUCKS!!!!!!!! Typically, you won't find out how good or bad an insurance co. is until you have to file a claim.

I have had Mercury for about 6 years now. I have filed 2 small claims with them (one comp, one collision) and had no problems. I pay about $89/mo for full coverage with LOW deductables ($50 comp/$250 collision)

my moms car and my jeep are on merc.

a while back i got in a fatty accident in her car before i had my jeep.

things got sorted out quickly and the claim went fine

BUT<-----BIG BUT, dont listen to their recomended body shops, go to one you like

my moms jeep was in there cause the piller between the front and rear passenger door was bent and both doors were f'ed up. well we get it back and it looks OK at best. the door molding didnt line up and the front power window didnt work and the rear door made a poping noise when you opendd it. so we take it back and they SAID they fixed it and ill give them credit the doors looked new and the the rear door didnt pop, but the front power window when up and down really slow and made all the other windows slower when useing it. we took it back and they said they fixed it, nothing was fixed. we complained to the insurence company and took it to the dealer and it came back perfect.

so i guess what im saying it that mercury is a good insurence company that makes REALLY bad choices on recomend body shops
