I got them down to 22k for the car, down from 28k that we started at. A-holes were like this deal is good today only, for my payment to be 435/month. SO, I said I want to sleep on it, course they kept insisting and insisting. So if the deal is still there(which it should be.....) I;ll be the owner of a PPW performance Z

Get them to throw in the extended warranty for free or at cost and negotiate the price of the car down. Those extended warranties have so much markup in them... Oh, and get them to change all the fluids/filters/fresh oil change for you before you take delivery (unless they've done it already, but ask them to prove it).

You have to remember that prices are going to differ quite a bit depending on what part of the country you live in.
Yes, region definitely makes a difference, even moreso on sportscars.

Since mods are worth absolutely nothing at trade-in time, I can only assume the salesperson you spoke to either knew nothing or was blowing smoke. Did you get a final deal written up? Maybe a good trade value but full sticker for the Porsche ... who knows. And, the big factor here, how many miles does yours have?

Anyway, as you can see from the post after yours, the dealer was willing to sell for $22K, so OBVIOUSLY, the dealer bought it for at least a couple grand below that ... hence trade-in value is quite a bit lower than the $23k you were quoted.

Look it up on Edmunds or Kelly.

Edmunds:

A 2003 Performance model with 18" wheels, aero kit and all standard options with 20000 miles goes for $27K

Kelly:

Kelly shows it as $26,060 but it did not give me the option of choosing the $1000 18" wheel option so I don't know if that was included.

Edmunds is always higher on tradein (and so on resdale) than Kelly so I use a printout of that when haggling with the dealer on my trade in but they always yank out the Kelly book and I strike a price down the middle.

I had to edit this thread because your first post said $22K for the car but now I see you are saying $28 so:

Assuming this car is cherry, it is worth around $25 to $26K

As far as warranty goes, if you can not get them to toss it in for free, think aftermarket.

Or as I do, once the warranty is over, I start banking a few $$ a month in my savings account to pay for the one item that will go up and that is the tranny. Read the fine print on the Clutch plate

If it was an American or German car, I would be looking at a warranty (helped my ageing father get a good deal on a warranty on a New Caddy recently ) but I think it is a waste of money for a Japanese car.
With the obligatory, IMHO

Point well taken. That is why the on line appraisal sites like Edmunds asks for your zip code.

Heck, there is even an adjustment for color.

Some color's draw a higher or lower value.

Your point about mods is also right on the mark. The ONLY mod that makes any difference is if you drive in with a trialer hitch on the back

I laugh but I am serious though.
Never forgot years ago when I was trading in a Honda Accord that I had a hitch on it cause I pulled a jet ski and the dealer told me AFTER I had signed all the papers "Except for a truck, don't ever drive into a dealership with a hitch on your car"

He also told me that they hate custom stereos (Head units, amps and subs) because they have to rip all that out. He said to always show up when shopping with the OEM radio in it.
High end Speakers mean diddly on trade in because they are hidden.

This long winded part about trade in is only because it was refreshing to find an honest sales guy and I learned alot about what to do BEFORE you show up at the dealer.

Also, he said that even though their appraisers know how to look past how dirty the car may be , he said that the car should be washed, waxed and perfectly clean inside. That shows the appraiser that the owner took good care of the car and helps it's resale. After all, a piggy car tells one that the oil probably is too.

Sorry for the ramble but good luck in your purchase.

Not even close. There's another recent thread of someone who just sold their '03 Touring for $21k.

I bought my '04 Touring with 9K miles for $26K back in Feb.

This is an '03 Performance ... trust me, this is NOT worth anywhere near $25K.

And if region made THAT big of a difference, everyone would simply fly or drive elsewhere to save $4K.
