Default Negotiating too easy?

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a Manual Touring model and most of the dealers I've contacted via email have immediatly given me price quotes at or near invoice. In my car buying experience that is kind of odd as I usually have to fight for this pricing. I've searched for rebates and dealer incentives that might be making them so agreeable but could find none.

My question is: Are there market factors I don't know about (Possibly Regional, I live in Houston, TX) that I could use to my advantage to get them down cheaper? Or are the dealers in my area just laid back?

Thanks

I don’t think that is unusual. The Z (coupe) is NOT in that much of a demand. Supplies are good, so pricing is low….

When I got mine in ’03 it had been on the market less than a year. I was quoted $1,000 under MSRP over the internet by one dealer. I went in person to another dealer and bought mine for about $1,300 under MSRP. And that was when the Z was only about 9 months old.

Your price quotes sound right for a car model this ‘old’.

Buy & enjoy! (Don’t worry, be happy )

Yup, the Z is already 3 years old. Although it's selling relatively well, they need to discount it somewhat to keep it selling.

I paid MSRP in Nov. of '02. It was a pain finding a dealership that wasn't charging OVER MSRP (plus most Z's that were coming in were already SOLD).

Aaaaaaah, the good ole days..... Well, paying too much was not that good, hahaha. But the car was worth every penny! (despite the numerous problems that I had buying the first year model)

Does anyone know what the invoice price REALLY is? I'm not flaming but everyone keeps saying they got their's below invoice and I wanted to see if this was true or not. I got an 05 Base for 25,600 Irvine California. I'm not even sure what the invoice price is but from my research online the Invoice for a Base Z was somehere in the high 24k low 25k. So what's your Inovoice?

The ‘secret’ to buying at ‘invoice’ is dealer holdback.
That is why you CAN buy at or below invoice.

Here is an explanation I copied.

Dealer holdback is an added markup on the invoice price of a car. This added markup(typically 2-3% of MSRP added to the invoice price) is known as dealer holdback. The dealer holdback money is later given back to the dealership, usually quarterly, by the manufacturer. This allows dealerships to advertise lower prices on their cars. You may have seen dealership advertisements offering cars at invoice price. The truth is that the dealership still makes a nice amount of money from the sale of the car.

Let's work out an example using Acura as the car manufacturer. Acura offers a 3% dealer holdback of the base MSRP. If you were to buy your Acura at the invoice price, and the base MSRP was $25,000, the dealership still receives $750 on the deal when they receive the dealer holdback from Acura.

Dealer holdback also lowers the sales commissions paid to the car salesman. Dealer holdback inflates the cost of the car, temporarily lowering the profit made, which takes away commission money from the salesman since salesman are paid a percentage of the profit. The dealership later receives the dealer holdback money, and the salesman does not receive any of this dealer holdback money.

BTW; I think Nissan's holdback is about 3%.

I found an invoice of 25,066 for a base model Z, but i bet they're paying about 22 K for that car, and making a good profit still, which ticks me off. They tried getting me to for 33K OTD for a base 5A/T enthusiast silverstone. So they paid about 23-24k. Ok i'm not giving you guys sa 10-11k profit. I thought 29,650K otd was a good price, but i didn't take it. I'm waiting until the 06 come out so then i can get an even better deal for the 05s, I like them more.

Aren't 2006's just around the corner? Perhaps they're just clearing out the 05's.
