who will cancel his/her pre-order?
Based on the reaction of the members of this board, the consensus is that the numbers suck. I for one am certainly disappointed with the numbers as they currently stand (mainly the HP), and was hoping that Nissan's new flagship car would perform better than the somewhat mediocre numbers published by C&D
However, pound for pound, I still believe that the new Z is an awesome automobile, and am looking forward to test driving my pre-order once it becomes available
I wonder how many potential purchasers are planning to cancel their pre-orders based on the numbers disclosed today?

No way would I ever cancel my order! They've given more than they said they would. When I ordered, it was under 30k, 260+ and under 6.0 seconds. My enthusiast at 29K, with 287 running 5.4, sounds great to me!! No real complaints here. Except that it's not in the garage yet.
Also, I already sold my wife's old civic and catching a ride with her to the hospital in the Montero is getting old. It feels like I'm back in elementary, especially when I'm waiting for her to pick me up!

hey noobs...keep it civil
fatzo,
I think there are many on this forum that would disagree with you...personally I would have loved to have seen more hp, but I am not at all surprised...287 is great when you consider the price of the car...I think people just built up this image in their mind of the perfect number...no one should be disappointed.
netviper,
drag racing is not illegal...if it's done at the track.
I don't think anyone is buying this car as an easy sunday morning driver...but they want a performance sports car, so hp numbers are important to people, understandably so. And don't ever wish an Audi TT on anyone..that is just plain mean.

We're talking about 287 hp out of a normaly aspirated 3.5L V6 folks. C'mon the NSX has VTEC cams and squeezes 290 out of a 3.2 liter, so Nissan has done very well. And for those of you who have driven a 6spd Maxima, you KNOW that the new Z is going to scream. I'll be looking to trade mine in in Sept.

I still believe that the 287HP number is just slightly conservative. I'm thinking it'll be in the 290-293 range. We've been stuck on that 287 for so long. I think that future tests and numbers given to pre-order customers will be a touch higher. Along with that, the 0-60 times will shrink to 5.2 or so, as will the 1/4 mile in the high 13s. Just my belief - we haven't seen final numbers on this car, guys. Hey, I'm satisfied with the numbers given, but again, something tells me we'll heare different ones in a week or two...

The NSX is SWEEET and she is Exclusive so you wont see a bunch of NSX's all over the place, but that is a whole different animal. Think of it this way, the Nissan 350Z is going to be nearly as fast for $60,000 dollars less. I got the Z because it looks nice with a nice motor. People that are getting the Z should be glad its even this quick because the numbers are pretty good.
I also think that the HP number is somewhat weak and not so impressive. A 300+ HP would certainly put the new Z in a different league altogether. Overall, the new Z is a great car, I just hope that people wont cancell their pre-orders based on what they see on paper -- unless they happen to be ahead of me on the waiting list at my dealer
First of all, i am very satisfy w/ the numbers! 287hp for this such a low price and great looks! Even a S2000 honda w/ 250hp L4 engine costs mort than the 350z!! i've told all my friends about the 350z and they are all surprised by the low price and high performance!! Now they want to get the 350z...too bad they have to wait til next yr

I have been monitoring this board for a month in anticipation of getting my new Infiniti G35 Coupe this fall. I have been enjoying the excitement and information exchange...until the last few days.
How can anybody be disappointed in the numbers for the Z? You are getting a 30-35k car, not a Ferrari!! You are spending very little for very much. In fact, your biggest concern should be fit and finish quality, given the very low price of this car.
If you were getting much more, I would be very suspicious about where the cost-cutting was being made by Nissan. So, give me a break and understand that you are getting AT LEAST what you are paying for. Quit your whining or come up with another $30,000 for the Lexus SC430.

Lexus SC430 sucks...well, at least as a sports car..it weighs almost 4000lbs!
Once it gets going its fairly quick...in a straight line...but it is a very comfortable cruiser...nothing more. It's a car to be seen in mostly.
The Z is a real sports car.

I think some of us are kind a crazy including myself! I mean for 27K-35K we have 287HP, maybe more we can freeway race a Boxter S and perhaps a 911 base, let alone all the Honda Crazy's out there. (Why do honda owners always want to race?
I am very happy. I mean if we really want .02 or .04 or .05 more maybe we have to wait a bit for NISMO add ons or perhaps we can run out and spend 70K on a 911.

You are getting a sports car that will outperform and outhandle most cars on the road at an excellent price. It may not be the fastest car out there in 0 to 60 times, it is not supposed to be. It is meant to be a great handling, fast sports car at an affordable price.
The 300Z in the final year was hitting prices of approx. $45,000. You are getting a car that will outperform and out handle the previous model for a lot less.
If someone wants to get a fast car that drives in a straight line. They can buy almost any rice burner and put a shot of NOS on it. It will be fast. However, it will not drive and handle like a true sports car.
The 350Z is an awesome car for the money.
