Finally got my Z last night!
YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!
After a year and a half of wanting and wanting and then buying a new house instead, I finally got my Z last night! Went to Carmax and yeah, it was pretty much everything they advertise it as and more. I had an email alert set up to let me know when the car I wanted would be in stock, got an email that morning, set up the appointment and it went off without a hitch. It was my own fault I got their too late, so it took 3.5 hours when maybe it could have taken less, then another 30 minutes they spent "prepping" the car - just washing and vacuuming the basically new car, but cant complain about that. Anyway, A+ to them. Exactly what its advertised as, no stress, people can walk around and not be hounded by salespeople the minute they come on the lot, just great. Salesguys were just nice guys, since there is no haggling involved they arent trying to dink and dunk you and **** you off. Ended up paying $28k for a loaded 04TouringZ with nav and 5100 miles - a nice bonus since they advertised it at 6k miles - they said they round up.
Only three minor snags, which is not bad for me. One thing I passed on was the Lojack install because I have read conflicting opions as to whether it was worth it or not. Seems to me if my car gets stolen, would I rather file an insurance complain, or hope they find it in a chopshop in half a day? I didnt know, figured I would pass, get more educated on it, then maybe add it later. Second was the nav system they advertised as being installed wasnt the stock, it was some aftermarket Audiovox they claim is better - only problem is there is no manual and they also could not find the car manual either. Not great that in a car full of computers and dials and a complex nav system there are no manuals. But I found (I think) the Audiovox one online - even though he couldnt tell me where the DVD was installed - its not behind the drivers seat in the storage area where I think it is for the stock Nav, right? And they said look call Nissan, if they cant get you one for free, bring us the receipt we will full refund you (it was 10:30pm at this point so they couldnt call anyone)
So no big deal, couple of minor glitches, I got the car I wanted for below the price I wanted with all the options I wanted! This will be my daily driver and I plan on enjoying the hell out of it. I will keep it clean, but not neurotically so. It will be loved and cared for but most importantly driven every day.
Funny thing I missed my Jetta for 4 minutes, between the time they took it, and the time I was standing there as they fired the Z up. I almost crapped my pants. Its definitely the most impractical but fun purchase I have ever made.
I hope people dont get sick of these "I finally got my new car threads" though! PS - bonus points if you can help me identify the Audiovox Model and whether or not its decent. Seems OK so far but have not used it too much. Tough to use in the dark!

Did they tell you it was an automatic too? Just kidding, but there is no way that the Audiovox nav is better than factory and in my eyes if that happened there would be no way I would take delivery

I cant comment on whether or not Carmax is too expensive in general, but I just came from my credit union cutting my check and their book value on my car was just under $31, the woman was stunned. I have no complaints whatsoever and wouldnt hesitate to do business there again. The complete non-hassle of doing business there is worth a good deal to me, how much specifically its worth to people is up to that individual.
As far as the Nav goes, it wasnt a must have for me, but I was happy it was there. It seems to be a good system so far. And yeah I got the Auto, but I live and commute in DC, worst or 2nd worst traffic in the country, had to do it. And as I saw last night, with 287hp, this car can move out of its own way just fine.
Enough talk, time to go home and drive!

Congrats on the new Z......I would've gotten the 6 speed (But I know it can be a b*tch in stop and go traffic....Wish I could magically make one appear when I'm stuck in SLOOOOWW highway traffic...LOL). And an Audiovox Navi System?? Better than the Nissan One??? Let us know if it has any advantages over the Nissan Navi System, once you find the manual, that is...lol
BTW...I wouldn'y even miss the Jetta....round dese here parts anyway, dats almost exclusively either a "girly" car...or a car for guys who say "duuudeee" and wear "Korn" T-Shirts and matching skull cap.
Good move stepping up to a SPORTS CAR!!

I for one will never be tired of seeing "I just got my Z threads" Because it reminds me of when I got mine, the excitement, the anxiety the night before. It was like the night before Christmas.
