Default Can you tell a Trim via a VIN Number ... ?

Topic ... just curious if there is a way to tell what Trim a vehicle is based on its VIN Number? If so, details would be appreciated.

Thanks!

yea, just add the 4th number with the 7th and then mulltiply it by 2 and then divide by the number that corresponds to the first letter and dont forget to use significant figures.

Somehow, I don't think the VIN# will specify the Trim level.......It'll probably just say that it's a "20** 350Z 3.5 L V6 Engine, etc".

I'd be curious to see what Car Fax would show on a Z VIN#. Hmmm??

I may be wrong....but IMO I don't see the VIN going into that kind of detail, like Enthusiast, Track, etc.

Good question though, especially if you're buying a Used Z from a private party as opposed to a Nissan dealer!!

Racer Z,

Thanks for the input ... that's exactly the case (private party purchase) so I wanted to make sure the Trim Level details were accurate. I pulled the 'Free' CarFax report and it just shows 'Roadster' for the Trim; however, it did so on a known Touring Trim as well ... so ... looks like you're right ... it simply doesn't go into that kind of detail.

Too bad ... I thought it was worth a shot.

Thanks again for the input!

One other thing you can do before you check out the car in person is to get ALL of the details (nissanusa.com) on what the trim level you're buying is SUPPOSED to have....Then when you see the car in person, If everything is there, GREAT...if not...DON'T BUY IT!

Also, have the car inspected by a mechanic BEFORE you buy it! This is VERY important when buying from a private party...You NEVER know what the previous owner did (accident, mods) or didn't do (maintenance wise) to the Z!

Good Luck!

BTW..disregard what IheardZ (or whatever dat cat's name is) said ...he must have hit the crack pipe a little too hard yesterday...LOL

+1-exactly what I was gonna say. Just know what options it should have and you'll know if it's really what the seller says.

Great first post! You responded to someone who made the post all the way back in 2005.

The VIN # does not specify the trim.

The previous owner showed me the invoive from nissan, which specified the trim.

You can look up the features and find the trim
