first, 03 is the most problematic year, for many reasons.
second, regarding warranty issues, if you do the mods and then develop problems with that system, nissan has to prove the mods caused the problem in order to void the warranty. see magnusson-moss act.
newer models have more safety features, eg side air bags, etc.
good luck

Nice work boys. We scared another one off. . As for the warranty question. Replacing parts only voids the warranty on the parts you replaced and anything they can prove that the installed parts can cause to fail. So an LSD will void the warranty on anything in the rear end.

Strange as it may seem...you'll probably have less concerns/issues AND LOWER cost of ownership with the '97 Nissan 240SX versus the '03 Z.

It was a solid and reliable car and you still see many of them on the roads today.

Especially at age 16...you don't want all your McDonald's paycheck to go to the mechanic for the "problematic" first year Z, do you??

A 350z and a 16 year old are an accident waiting to happen. He should get extensive training in inclement weather.

What the lil dude needs is a nice tame 1990 Ford Escort or Acura Integra....learn to drive safely FIRST...then step up to a sportscar!

This is my first post here, and I'm in the EXACT same boat as this guy. I wanted a 240SX from the start, and I'd drop the newest SR20 I could find into it, but my parents won't budge on the idea. So I'm stuck getting a newer car, and the only thing I really like is the 350z. The only thing that's in my budget is the 03 lol. I've got a good three months to sort this out though.

i didn't flame him cuz he said he's going to track the car and has his dad's support, so maybe he has some high-speed driving experience already, but if i had bot a 350z when i was 16, i wouldn't be here/alive today...its just too much power for a 16 year-old's level of maturity, imo.
what about an s2k?

A 16 would prolly kill himself in an S2K as well! These kids need to start off like some of us did.....In a 4-cylinder (non-turbo) car that gets around 90-100 HP. All these lil tykes wanna do is get a car from the favorite X-Box racing game!

F*ck dat...give 'em a low HP 4 banger so they can LEARN HOW TO DRIVE!! In order to handle a Z or any Sportscar in it's class..you gotta have your driving skills up to par!

I tell you what dude. The 03's are the most problematic of the bunch but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of good ones. I have an 03 performance and I love it. Got 26K miles on it, no feathering, no tranny problems, no nothing. Just because more of them have a problem doesn't mean that all of them will.

I hate to steal this dudes thread, so I'm going to quit posting in here after this. Anyway, I'm not too worried about problems with 03s at all.

I'm 17 and I really don't understand the flamers on this forum...'The Z is too powerful for young drivers'....At my highschool alone there are 2 evo's with upgraded boost, A 2001 S4 with a few mods, C5 Corvette, and alot of small BMW's and Benz's....People are already calling me names for buying the Z when I can get something else, but it comes down to what I like....

As for the problems, Its a Nissan, Don't screw around too much and you'll be fine....Educate yourself before you do your modifications....These guys don't need another 'I'm 16 years old blew my engine' or some bullshiot like that...

a s2K? i thought about it. but one of my friends just got one and hes in the whole crew i hang out with. i don't like the fact that it has such little torque.

anyways i've be going up and down mountains driving for about 4 years with my dad now, learning the basic/safety issues but nothing crazy.. i plan to keep the engine naturally aspired noting that it does have too much power for me. but yeah i just wanted opinions from first hand owners. but i understand it sucks to get your guys' cars played out. anyways thanks for opinions and comments yo!.
