Is the honeymoon over?
I think you assumed that I'm rich, which I'm not. But I decided to do something about it and will be on track to becoming very well off in the near future. So please excuse my tone of voice, I merely get impatient with those who feel like they deserve something (not you, just in general).
That being said you have every right to report problems with your car. It doesn't matter whether you paid $48k or $18k, a product should work as advertised.
Peace. Happy holidays.

It's all good man, I just hadn't had enough coffee yet, sorry
2000+ miles here on my cs touring. The only problem I have had at all was the known BOSE TSB. My dealer had it in three days, and now the sound is just fine. Actually, the more miles I put on it the better and quiter it rides. The bottom line: except for a few things like the Bose and some ergonomic issues this is one dandy vehicle! Can not believe the remarks people make about it!
its also 45000$... soooo. yeah.
and if you were curious, the BMW I had rattled all over the place, and the convertable top? when it was up it was the king of the rattles, and when it was down, everything else rattled. reliability, no so hot.
I think maybe your standards are set a tad high, cars rattle, only car Ive driven that didnt was a Dodge ram and a mercedes, but ford, bmw, pontiac... all rattled. as for grease streak... you can actually notice that?
bose sucks, yup... I think I would have gone performance at this point, gone with racing buckets and called the heated seats a loss, tho I do love them, and Im sure you do too.
your transmission needs to be fixed, thats not a normal problem, go ***** till they replace it or your car. you shouldnt have that problem.

On a side note You can find a lot of the same gripes with even VERY expencive cars like the SL55 reported "cheap" interior parts and orange peel, etc..
I think Honda for example got to be such a well respected name by being better than people expected for the price. At one time people didn't know what an inexpencive import was except ultra cheap (VW) but the japanese manufacturers opened some eyes, Same with Lexus for upscale imports.
Remember the origional LS400 was like $35K and people couldn't believe what high quality they could get for their money.

Well this being the first new car I have ever purchased I don't have anything to compare it to but I have 4200 miles on my Slvrstn track after 5 whole weeks and I have had just a couple of issues :
1. On delivery there was an imperfection in the rear bumper cover - Still waiting for parts
2. Last week I noticed the welds were broken on the bottom of the drivers seat.
I have had a blast driving and admireing this car and more so having other people admire it. It has seen 1 AutoX and smoked almose everything out there. I could be a little bit happier but not much

the Z is a better performer than all of these. You pay for performance in the Z, quality in the others. Yes Im ticked off too, but this is the price you pay for having the "first" Z. These bugs will be fixed in a matter of months!
It cracks me up how forgiving people are about
this car:
"...Well, there are a couple of rattles, the
transmission needs to be replaced, the engine
fell through the floor, the gas tank exploded,
but for $30,000 it's still A GREAT BARGAIN!"
It reminds me of breast implants: "They cost
a lot of money, I had to have major surgery,
I had some serious complications, but I get a lot
of attention now, so it's all worth it!"
I don't know. I like attention as much as the
next guy, but I'm not willing to deal with a
pile of headaches. I cancelled my order so that I
can wait to see how serious some of these problems
really are. I just wish I hadn't sold my MR2.

Boards such as this are much more fun when people can express themselves in other than "four letter" words.
On topic, I've been following problems/defects on here just to anticipate what I should look for when my Zzzzzzz shows up.
The only two I've noticed that seem to be consistant issues are the Bose stero &, maybe, some orange peel.
Certainly there are other problems but appear to be limited to a few cars.
In short, so far so good from my reading.

well thats too bad. I think people get a bad idea reading on here. the car is fine, its SUPER FAST. obviously. and it really doesnt rattle... I have noticed one rattle during extreme bass from the drivers door handle, easily fixable with a little foam and about 10 minutes of time. it just doesnt bother me enough to fix.
owell, guess it keeps it exclusive. I got my Z, I love it, couldnt be happier with it, the stereo is the only flaw I can really call a flaw. owell, if a bad stereo is the only beef I have, I call it a win.

my excuses have just a little to do with the "$30k" argument and more to do with the fact that we KNEW we would be guinea pigs by ordering from the first 5000 350zs EVER made. I am ticked, yes, but I told myself that this would happen. Those people who pick up a Z this summer will probably ot have any of the problems that I have....ya know?
All this talk of problems because of the first model run is making me wonder if i should wait till the 2004's are out. But then there's that part of me that says, screw it, just buy it so you can have one for the summer. I know when the dakota was released (3rd gen) in 97, it was a host of many problems, but after time it has turned out to be a very solid truck (i have a 2001 now). Deep down inside, i keep hearing my self say "wait for the 2004, its only untill Aug." but damnit, thats so far away. I wish Nissan would release a list of upcomming changes for the new model year (like software developers do). Then i would weigh the differences and make my desision on how much i want one vs. how many changes there are. No matter what, im going to get a 350, but when is the only issue. Bah, maybe i'll just win the lotto and buy one every year...

Had her a month - looks like the start of a very long and rewarding relationship - quite appropriate since she was an anniversary present to my wife of 30 years -
Best car I have ever driven - more fun - full of surprizes - can even find an ATM or gas station in an emergency

Before getting my car in mid November, reading this board made me think about cancelling too. Some of theses issues are way overly exaggerated. Been driving it a month and I love it.
Wait till you see the car, drive the car, experience the car => then decide for yourself.
A friend bought a new 2002 Pontaic Trans scam. When he went to drive it home he noticed the fuel doors were just sticking out, the dealer had to screw the screws in door in, all four tires were 'out of round', window motor was defective. The next day the headlight mechanism broke (raises and lowers the lights).

Has anyone read edmunds long term review of the 2001 Ferrari 550M Maranello?
For the first several months, it spent more time in the shop than not, including a total electrical system shutdown right after they took delivery. They had squeaks, problems with the CD changer, and numerous other fun things the first several months.
Price Paid: $226,095
I'm paying nearly 10 times less for my Z. I know its a first year car so I might have some issues to deal with. That's just part of the deal.
A little perspective goes a long way.

I know the sensible thing would have been to not order a car I hadn't seen or driven, and not buy the first year of a new design. But you know what? Being sensible wouldn't have been nearly as much fun! I wouldn't have missed all of the pre-order excitement for anything, and nothing can compare with getting one of the first Zs delievered anywhere! (Got mine back in August, in the first batch delivered.)
So all you super-careful people go ahead and pass, but I am just so glad I didn't let that rational part of my brain take over and rob me of this great experience.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fence sitters: I took the Z out for an hour-long drive today... on a beautiful, 60 degree, Sunday afternoon. No reason other than to get out and cruise around. Not once during my drive did I think, "Man, this interior is cheap!" or, "Look at all of the orange peel." or, "The ride is too harsh." or, "My nav door sucks." None of these thoughts came to mind and frankly, they never had. In fact, the only thoughts I did have were, "Man, this car is tight and connected to the road." and "The throttle is so responsive and easy to modulate. How did I live without drive-by-wire?" and "I LOVE how the back-end comes around with judicious, second-gear throttle!" ...........Bottom line is this is a fantastic car. My feathering tires still sound like ****, but oh well. A word of caution though. The Z is not an acquired taste. You will either "feel it" or you will not. I knew the moment I sat in my car the day I took delivery that everything was right. If you don't feel that way when you go to check out the your first Z at the dealer, don't try and force it. Don't make excuses for why you have to like the car. No one should do that. It's not for everyone, and if your gut doesn't say Z, don't make a decision you might later regret. Leave that Z for someone who will "feel it".............As of yesterday, I've had my Z for 90 days. Look at all of the pictures I've taken and the silly, little site I built. Tell me I don't love my Z. The only car that would get me out of the Z right now would be a 996 C4S and well, my wife's not going to let that happen anytime soon.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
You posted this less than 2 weeks ago. Tell your head to quit worrying about the greasy windows and let your gut enjoy the ride in this great car. You had it right the first time--you just have to "feel it."
P.S. I test drove a 996 this morning, and a Boxster while I was there (no spouse here, only an accountant to nag me, and I don't listen to him much anyway), and then I went back to the Nissan dealer's and gave them a deposit on a Z. Yeah, the others have nicer leather and a bunch of other doo-dads, but the pure visceral experience of driving a great sports car is a lot more intense in the Z.

Kind of sad to see this sort of thing, but it's bound to happen due to the open nature of boards like this. Maybe one out of a thousand cars has problems, but you will hear from just about every one of them on here, and it sounds like the car is nothing but trouble! What about all of the thousands of happy owners with no problems? I think if you read message boards on ANY car, you will hear from people that have had problems, and even "common" problems (i.e. one in a thousand cars).
