Question Is the honeymoon over?

Tires, transmissions, BLOSE, rattles, greasy windows... what's next? What the f**k else can go wrong that we haven't experienced just yet? Ever get the feeling that you finally bagged that REALLY hot girl only to find out she had Herpes? Stupid, STUPID droid. Didn't you learn your lesson last time with that first year car?

Discuss.

Well my friend...
I haven't had one bit of trouble yet....granted it's only been a bit over a week but except for a small window streaking...not a problem at all.

my transmissions fine, no noticable rattles, and havent had the car long enough for tires to cause problems.

the rattles I have and grease on the window are tiny problems that I can more than accept on such an otherwise great car.

the stereo sux... yup... cant say much there. wish it was better, but thats not really a problem as a design flaw.

I have the problematic 3rd gear grinding but aside from that, nothing major. Rattles, squeaks and fit and finish issues for a 26k car? This is a relatively cheap sports car, not a Benz... live with it.

Did you pay $26K for your car? I didn't.

its the base of a 26000$ car tho. you ordered options to bring it up, and you have no problems with VDC, or your leather, or 18" rims. now you do have a problem with bose; well I cant argue with you so do I, you have a valid point there.

hopefully something will get done about it, either a proper fix, or a rebate.

but then again... theyve already fixed the "problem" of bad bass. other than that, the system sounds about on par with any other system, its better than stock for sure.

Droid,

Sucks that you are having such problems. Maybe you just got a lemon. My girlfriend's sister has had a toyota and VW as her last two cars, and both totally sucked. Everything that could go wrong, did. Leaky winshield, bad transmissions, messed up fuel sytems, non-functioning radio, etc. I guess some people are just unlucky with the car.

Maybe all the teething problems you are having are just a sign of better times to come. Hopefully the grease will dry up and go away over time, your transimission will be fixed, the Bose amp will get replaced, a new brand of tires will wear better, and in a year your car will be in good shape.

I don't know if it is any consolation, but my car has 5700 miles with no bad tire wear (AutoX's and all), minimal grease on the windows (only happens occasionally, and I rarely notice), a transmission that shifts crisply most of the time (second is tight when cold), and only a couple rattles that I plan to have fixed (rear view mirror and passenger visor). I also have the non-bose stereo, and while it isn't that great, it is better than any other steroe I've had (maybe it helps that I have pretty low standards).

Anyhow, you need to find a good twisty road, lower the windows (to eliminate grease streaks and cover the rattle noises), rev up the engine, turn off the stereo, bask in the sound of the exhaust, take some really hard corners (to wear the outside of your tires), and you'll forget about the problems and remember why you got the car.

It'll be like a second honeymoon!

Good luck and always wear protection, just in case...

droid if you could go back in time knowing what you know now what exactly would you have done regarding your car purchase?

don't forget orange peel.

BTW everyone is sayin how it's a $26K car so you can't expect too much. BS first of all most are costing more than $30K and second $26K isn't peanuts. The average person only makes around $30-40K a year before taxes.

I know the Z is a lot of car for the money but it would be nicer if it were not having so many problems (at least droid's seems to be having more than expected).

Droid I'm not sure what tire problems you are having can you explain? Did you expect the tires to last more than 15-20K miles? do you think it's the tires or the camber? I rember the first year NSX's were going through tires in like 8k miles and honda ended up giving out a lot of free tire cupons. Soon the camber or allingment was reworked so the tires lasted a little longer.

First model years always have problems I think. I had a fist model Z3 and was plagued by gremlins.

Closer to 27000.. Plus, the IS300 is a 28,000 dollar car too, yet it is MUCH more solid. How about the Audi A4? Also a 27,000 dollar car, MUCH more solid. How about the G35? Also a 27,000 dollar car.

~4300 mi. in ~3 mo., and I have no serious complaints. 6MT is better than fine and all tires are wearing well. Even the Bose behaves, without the so-called fix, and 120 mph feels as stable as 60. No trouble in snow, either, with enough weight in the back or a full tank. ~17 mpg city, ~25 mpg highway, with a very heavy foot. Handling and braking, even in panic situations, is probably better then 99% of anything else on the road, by a comfortable margin.

Even the heated seats and mirrors, which I thought were probably fluff, have turned out to be really useful now that the weather has turned, and the power seats make it easy to stay comfortable on really long drives. The exhaust note has gotten deeper and richer as the miles go by, and this Z feels noticably more powerful than it did pre-breakin.

The only real concern I have is that some of the plastic surfaces show a tendency to scratch easily, and the aluminum hood has already taken a serious ding. Just cosmetics, which in context of all that is good about the Z, pretty much fade into the noise.

The average person shouldn't buy a sportscar. In fact, if you're not rich enough to consider $26k "peanuts," then you shouldn't consider ANY sports car PERIOD. Get a Honda Civic or get a better job. Life is tough.

That being said, it's always wise to wait a year or two for manufacturers to work out the kinks in a new car.

You're completely ignorant if you think this car is targeted to people who are rich ****** and consider $26k peanuts. They wouldn't be making 30k of them each year if it was for a selective market. This car IS for the mainstream consumer, like me, to whom $26k, much less the $32k I paid for my Z is a LOT of money. We want the best for what we spend, and I think we deserve it.

That being said, you're right, the average person shouldn't get a sports car. It's not practical. On top of that, this being a first-year car, we have to expect some problems. That doesn't mean we're not allowed to ***** about it, or want the problems fixed!

As for your comment to "get a better job," I don't think many will appreciate that. Have you looked at the job market lately? Yeah, I'd love to be a rich guy like you that can spend his peanuts, but the opportunity just isn't there right now. So I'm going to keep complaining about what's wrong with my $32k car all I want. You can pretty much screw off.

Ok, back to the topic

When I ordered this car, I had alot of people tell me about the risks in buying a first-year car. I heard them, and accepted them. I knew there would be troubles, but for me, it's been worth it and then some. Everytime I get on the highway, or take a hard corner, or see people drool at my car, everthing feels right. The more I drive this car, the more I love it! So no, the honeymoon just keeps on going for me. I've had my tire problems, the grease streaks, the rattles and such, but I don't care. This car is just too damned fun to!

That is uncalled for. Why do you have to call people names.

But not related to the Z I hate this class envey. The soak the rich tax mentality, let rich people pay all the taxes because they don't deserve the money they earn.

Some well off people have been given wealth. But a lot of well off people have made it on their own by working hard going to school and being good at a job that other people can't do. So don't take offence if he says "get a better job" That's not a bad idea. Work hard and make something of yourself instead of crying "poor me".

put the flame thrower down.

I'm SO glad I ordered early as I got the car before thet are too plentiful - I'd do it again all over. This car is better than any I've owned before.

Oh please. Look, the last thing I want to do is start a flame war here. You obviously misunderstood my standing up for people who work hard to earn their money, and want the best for what they spend it on. I don't hate him for being rich, I just dislike his arrogance. I'm not crying "poor me", as I make a pretty damned good living. That's not the point. The point is, we have every right to ***** about things wrong with the car we spend money on, period.

Sorry I see your point now. Before I thought you were mad because the other poster didn't seem to be in touch with the common man.

I think you are 100% right to expect the best for your hard earned money. Nissan did a GREAT job but it could have been SOOO much better. At least from what I hear from droid.

I was just pointing out that even if you disagree it is not necessary to call someone an *** or to go F#*! themselves. Do you see what I mean?
