Default Is there any truth to all this nonsense?

I was just reading some old threads about 'special ordering' a new Z, though I suppose it could apply to any Japanesse manufacturer as well.

It was mentioned that when the dealers take your deposit and tell you that the EXACT car you ordered (from Japan) will be in the U.S. on such and such date, that it is actually all just BS, that they take your deposit and let you think/believe that you ordered your exact car from the factory in Japan but in reality they are just making you wait and stew until something close to what you thought you ordered arrives or becomes available from another lot in the U.S.?

It was implied that there is actualy no so such thing as "special ordering" a built to customer specs car from Japan? What I mean by custom is things like the trim level, tranny, interior, exterior color, factory accessories etc.

It Was implied that whatever Nissan of Japan ships out of thier factory is what there is avaiable, you either buy what Japan ships out and what the dealers have on their lots or you don't, won't and can't get exactly what you want or for that matter what you thought you had 'special ordered' from the factory?

Is this crap true?

yes and no.

They WILL order the car with your options and stuff.

However if one manages (exactly or Very similar to your specs) to comes across before the actual ordered one does they MAY sell you that one or may not. If you want straight from the factory pick one w/o all the extras and a rare model at that.

Crap! I had hopes that mine would actually arrive earlier. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait 'til December.

I pre-ordered mine exactly the way I wanted it. The dealer had tracking numbers - we knew when it left Japan, when it arrived in Vancouver, it then got stuck in Toronto for a while, before showing up in Ottawa. BTW...mine was part of the first year allocation of ZR's into Canada - in the summer of 03 for the 04 model - there were very few and most were pre-ordered

I pre-ordered mine exactly the way I wanted it too. The dealer had the VIN as soon as it was assigned, and the car showed up a week or so earlier.

I kind of doubt that there were very many '05 Track models made in Ultra Yellow -- in fact, I know of only two such cars that even exist.
