Yes, but Mobil 1 makes a gear oil also. Here is a link, please correct me if I'm wrong but I think this should be good for the trany and the diff as well.

I don't have the numbers but there is a specific viscosity rang our tranny and diff take and Nissan is the only company that makes the exact range, but other companies have ranges that are close. Check out redline and royal purple gear oils.

I wouldn't go synthetic in the car until after 10,000 miles. There are reports of those who started using synthetic right away, and not dinosaur first . . . their seals started leaking.

Anyone consider starting with the owner's manual. Viscosity not same for tran and rear. There is also a trany TSB that mentions Nissan p/n required for warranty work.

Good Advice MrGrapics,
The dealer/parts/body shop guys at my local Nissan dealer, who supposedly spend much time on mod stuff on the side said:
The synthetic is not good to use until after your first oil change, so between 4 -6K miles, you can start running a synthetic. He told me change out with normal oil at 1K and then synthetic at 4K.
As to the weight, my limited knowledge is that it depends on your region of the country, the weather/temperature etc. Short - climate.

I wouldnt get any other oil than what Nissan recommends. I have read on other forums that using other oils is not good for bushings etc.

Do a search on this in the "Repairing" forum. The posts here so far are doing no service to the question. A bunch of rumors and hearsay.

First of all, breakin in an engine and in gears (the 6MT or rear diff) are totally different. Second, synthetic is not going to cause your seals to leak- maybe on an old car that has 150K miles and always ran the cheap stuff, but not on a new Z. I have been running full synthetic in the engine, 6MT and rear diff since 2500 miles and the performance is much better- especially the shifting.
There is a different API Service classification for the 6MT and the rear diff- one is GL-4 and one is GL-5, if memory serves correctly. You can buy a synthetic Amsoil product for each application (and the engine, as well). This is what I run. There are other options as well. You do NOT have to use Nissan fluids to keep your warranty intact.
