Default These guys are NUTS....

I've been meaning to post this. I was in for service last week and on the floor was a UL 35th edition track. It was tagged as a demo & had several thousand miles on it. It had a mod list in the window of which there was only 1, the Nismo exhaust.

Basically a used 05 Z. They had it priced at $48,000.00! I just about fell over. One of the salesman was pushing this thing on me while I was waiting on my car. I said "you guys are smoking something, how much do you really expect to sell this car for?" Response, "$48,000.00"

How much was this thing new?

Gotta love the stealerships. I went to a Toyota dealership to take a look at the Tacoma X-Runner before I got my Z. They had the thing priced at $36,000!!!! The damn things are $23k MSRP. Why did they have it priced that high I asked......the answer......it's a limited run vehicle and in high demand. I busted up laughing. I was like hey, jacka$$, don't try to screw with me. The X is a standard run production truck and it's not any really hot ticket item." Needless to say I left the stealership. God I hate car salesmen.

The closest dealership to my shop is asking $36K for their 35th w/all options including Nav. I would have jumped on it but it has that weird two tone black/tan seat.

Correct me if I'm wrong, dealerships still make a profit if the sell the vehicle at MSRP, right?

Yep. I believe they even get a profit if they sell at invoice. My guess is they think that because it's a 35th plus a track plus UL, that it'll be hard to find.

No one in their right mind is going to pay that price. for the life of me I don't know why I still take my car their.

From what I understand, yes they still make a profit at invoice. The "invoice" price they so call give you is the invoice price the dealer would pay if they bought that vehicle by itself, from the factory. But since they buy vehicles in bulk, they get an even cheaper deal. The only way to really get the car at invoice is to have them divide the number of cars they bought on a fleet shipment by the total price they paid for the entire shipment. This would be how much they actually paid the factory for that 1 specific vehicle. But of course there are other factors because some models are worth more than others, and also we know dealer would never do these calculations for us....Salesman=Dirt bags.

You keep saying 35th plus track....Aren't 35ths just a combo touring and track with diff wheels? All 35ths are leathered and Bosed out with the Brembos.

I actually am a car salesman () but I work for Enterprise Car Sales. I've worked at regular dealerships and they are a scam. They try to wring as much money out of people as possible and that's why I no longer work with them. Enterprise has a no haggle system which is pretty cool and since we don't advertise, word of mouth is our only advertisement. That means we HAVE to take care of our customers to keep them coming back. Any ways, I hate dealerships too and it's too bad mine doesn't sell sports cars cuz that would be sweet.

I have no idea. It was a 35th with Brembo's and Track wheels. Isn't that a Track Model?

If I remember, advertisements for cars that include MSPR usually have a caveat that goes something like this “Suggested MSPR but dealers are free to charge what they want.”

I like the free market system: the buyer is free to make an offer. Any offer.

Does the 35th come in all trim levels or is it it's own trim level?

Definitely. Keep in mind that “profit” is an accounting term. Revenue must be used to pay salaries, property leasing costs and utilities. The service shop is a BIG money maker for a dealership. Trying to determine exactly “what the dealer paid (for a vehicle)" is difficult at best.

It is it's own level...right after track.

Just to clarify the 'dealer cost' issue, Dealer Invoice is what the dealer actually pays plus something called a 'dealer holdback'. In the case of Nissan, this is 2% of cost, and is basically a kickback from the manufacturer to help cover costs like marketing, etc.

If you're a shrewd negotiator, you find out what invoice is, rip the 2% dealer holdback off of that, then offer that price plus reasonable profit (which is probably close to dealer holdback). That's what I did, and I drove off the lot with an '04 track for right around 32,500 plus TTTDP (Tax, Tags, Title, Dealer Processing). All total, I wrote a check for $35500 and took 'er home.

Any dealer selling ANY Z for 48K better be including an F/I kit of your choice w/ installation by the shop of your choice. Now THAT I might buy!

Take a look at this article I posted on another forum.

I beat the dealer's at their own game on this one. Remember, the deal i got was for the only car with the exact options and trim level in Nor Cal...
