If you're a shrewd negotiator, you find out what invoice is, rip the 2% dealer holdback off of that, then offer that price plus reasonable profit (which is probably close to dealer holdback). That's what I did, and I drove off the lot with an '04 track for right around 32,500 plus TTTDP (Tax, Tags, Title, Dealer Processing). All total, I wrote a check for $35500 and took 'er home.

Any dealer selling ANY Z for 48K better be including an F/I kit of your choice w/ installation by the shop of your choice. Now THAT I might buy!
+1. Actually, a factory installed SC would be nice. At least then it's covered under warranty.

I was under the impression that dealer holdback was just a tool to make it look like the invoice was higher than it actually should be. I thought it's like a holding deposit with the manufacturer, that the dealer has to pay, but they get the money back when they sell the car.

In any case, if a dealer offers you a deal that's below invoice, they are definitely still making money. One crooked dealer tried to tell me on some other car, "OMG I'm LOSING money on this deal ($50 below invoice) you HAVE to buy."

Whatever, ****face...

I love it when they act like they are going lower than they can possibly go and then they say "If we go any lower we'll be losing money!" Everytime I hear that I laugh my @$$ off. Losing money, they could sell a brand new 05 35th for $30,000 and still make some money. I worked at a dealership for a year or so do **** jobs in the shop. (HIGH SCHOOL JOBS SUCK!) And you wouldn't believe the price dealerships pay for cars. What a bunch of BS!

I went to talk to some sales guy at Sterlin McCall Toyota the other day. My old lady was buying a new car and trying ot negotiate. As soon as I arrived, he looked at me like I was trouble. He tried to give me that one liner. I told him that was crap and he was going to make a profit reguardless. Who would sell something at cost price? How would they ever make money? He was a tool and I called him out. We didn't do business with him.
