Default Just use 1st 3rd and 5th gear?

this might be a dumb question but i just got the Z and its a blast to drive but its difficult trying not to drive fast and keep it a smooth ride. So i wanted to know if i shift from 1st to 3rd and then 3rd to 5th is bad for that car and transmission?

Eh.. no. It's fine, just rpm match and you'll save money on gas and won't cause any undo wear and tear. I do it all the time since its my everyday driver. But I jump to sixth after 2nd sometimes... sixth will go just fine from about 30 mph.

I do the same thing. The torque in the Z is very nice! Unless I'm trying to get maximum acceleration, I get tired of rowing through all six gears too. I do the 1,3, 6 as well. Rich

Default 1st to 3rd to 5th

1st to 3rd to 5th
It took me a long time before I even tried to go 1st to 3rd to 5th - then I asked several people if it would damage anything. Now I do it without relucatance! Really nice when some jerk in one of those small Mustangs wants to play around! Or those baby BMW things.

lol my friend has a g35c w/ 6 speed and he goes through each gear but I never really noticed. Last night he had too much to drink and I had to drive him home in his car and i was skipping gears once we got up to speed and he was asking me wtf was I doing, and told me no one does that and you're suppost to go through each gear...

haha great timing for this thread.

Obviously I go from 1st to 3rd if I revved in 1st gear quite high like 4k or 5K rpm. Then I even sometimes go to 4th gear.

It won't hurt anything as long as you're rev matching.

Yeah it's fine, I go 1-3-5 then maybe when I have to slow down or break for turns, I shift to 2, that's when I go 2-4-6.

many ppl, including myself, skip gears when upshifting to save gas. casues no ill effects....except you may get passed up by POS cars like corrolla's and civic and they start to think their cars are real fast cuz they passed up a Z....LOL

BTW sixth to second gear at 110 mph is not good. That's what I heard.
