They want you money or possessions, but rarely your life (which, of course does not stop them from taking it by any means).

Over there, I met some people that killed for the pleasure of killing. Occasionally they kill in the name of politics or God, but in the end, they smile as they kill indisciminently. It taught me that there are some poeple who you can not reason with, you cannot 'make them listen to your side' or 'change their ways'. These people just are. These are people that can and will kill you just for sport. If you dont think that an element of this humanity does not exist in our country then I suggest you all get a reality check.

I own a gun, I carry a large caliber and I will wilfully discharge that weapon in defense of my family or those around me who are in danger (good samaritan law). The difference in my owning a weapon and many people in this forum, is that I have been trained to use it, and have seen first hand the physical and emotional damage its use can bring. If i use it, I know it will be soley to kill, and not driven by emotion or anger. It is a huge responisibilty own a gun and having the power to take a life, but I will never again be put in a position were someone else can take my life or those around me without any input from me.

Well said !!! The main thing I want to point out is that he says, "I know it will be soley to kill, and not driven by emotion or anger. It is a huge responisibilty own a gun."

I recommend if you own a weapon learn how to use it and when, or you'll find yourself on the wrong side of the law really fast.

I carry a Sig Sauer 2340 also I am a certified handgun and personal protection instructor. I believe if your life is in danger you do have the right to protect yourself although when you choose to use a handgun to defend yourself you will have to answer to the law enforcement that you where in danger of being killed or having bodily harm done to you which puts the burden of proof on you which doesn’t make it worth the trouble. As far as having your car stolen doesn’t make using a gun the best choice only if you are in danger is when you can protect yourself otherwise let the car go. There are a lot of crazy people carrying guns who do not have permits and would shoot someone just for the sake of killing anyone who are a danger to society. The choice to carry a gun is a personal choice which should not be taken lightly because once you choice to defend yourself you have made a choice that if you hesitate you will get shot since the person who has a gun on you has already made a choice to shoot you so if you hesitate it is too late. The idea of shooting someone is difficult and should be taken very seriously because there is no backing down just the hassle to prove that you where within your rights to do so think long and hard about making a choice about carrying a handgun.

I have been known to carry, and in SC I believe that more people have guns then those who don't. The problem is when you have people who have no respect caring a gun. My sister won't even hold a bullet, and hates the fact that I am going into LE. But the truth is if you know how and more importantly WHEN to use a gun you can save lives. Not every shot will kill, but most will stop. I grew up with guns and have been luckey enough to learn a great deal about them and have also got a great deal of respect for any gun.

I have a friend who carries, but I can't see myself doing it -- mainly for the fact that it would probably work against you than for you if you had to use it.

My 2 cents.
Growing up in Australia with strict gun laws, vs living in the US for 4 years, with laws where just about anyone can carry a gun.

In general I felt a whole lot safer in Oz. The whole gun culture back home is almost completely reversed. Over here you are a badass if you have a gun, back home you would be ridiculed and known as a ***** if you carried a hand gun.

After living here for so long, I've thought about getting a gun...but honesly in my mind they will create more trouble than anything else.

Sure there are some crazy ****'s out there [to me more of a reason to have gun control] but most "bad guys" just want your ****. I ain't going to shoot someone over that.

In my opinion, in general...Gun vs Gun=someone is going to get messed up. Gun vs Unarmed=situation diffused.

See back home, you have a disagreement...you settle it like men then go have a beer. Over here I dare not mess with anyone in case some crazy ****er shoots me.

But then on the other hand I can see where a hand gun may save your life, but I think the % is very low, compared to the trouble handguns cause.

BTW I'm not an anti-gun freak, I love hunting [mainly bow hunting].

I think it's like most things, it's probably how you grew up...what you've been taught etc.

Well! Arizona is an open carry state. Ive been CCW for a while, i never leave home without it. but for the cars, dont waste your bullets, only protect your life and the lives of others especially family members.

in the glove box, sure sure, i can see it, umm, wait im gonna get something out of my glove box which if im in my seat belt i cannot even reach. umm,
ok im pulling my gun out now, and before you fumble with all this happening, you are either getting the bejesus pulped out of you or he's already shot you twice, maybe three times for taking his time.

carrying a gun, get a permit, get training, know your guidelines under the definition of law, practice at least every month handling it, shooting it, cleaning it. it can be an extension of you but use the brains!

buy a nextel phone and order mobile tracking let him take it for a spin-bust his hide, or, lojack, or a gps tracking device that shuts down your vehicle before the **** crashes it.

EDIT and add after i almost read thru 8 pages...
I like the expressions people have here, an im another guy who believes in Paul at Riverside.
After Id been robbed at a bank in Hawthorne Ca, they didnt let me get a permit for a weapon,
the only permit cali gave me was some lame safety permit when i went hunting with pops.

after a friend of mine got carjacked at a car wash here just outside of Phoenix (killed by stabbing and gunshot wounds -Chandler, AZ 1999) one of my clients invited me to a safety course and i received my ccw.

like Paul, whether illegal or not, if im in a car and i drive beyond my arizona limit and run into l.a. or san diego, i carry my weapon no different than as when in arizona duly permitted.

knowing that it is there gives some peace of mind. but i was very uncomfortable when my older son turned 21 and bought 2 guns of his own, i gladly told him about a private investigator out here in Glendale AZ so he can take a safety class and become a CCW holder.

i think i will come back to this topic because, one-the topic is a hot one. two-people have common sense, (well maybe not the guy who said he carried to rob 7-11s).
try robbing a 7-11 out here in phoenix, 5 or 6 other customers will be on the cash register clerks side cuz u are messin with interrupting their alcohol purchase, and thats a big no-no.
and three, love all you guys have to say about this.

again, suggestion, if you need protection, get it.
if you want to keep your car, dont kill over it, simply try gps and but if the "bad guy" is brandishing a firearm and you see it and he's looking at you, it is cause to make a few holes into his head and chest.

Could not read all the posts in the thread. But to the original poster. He is in Florida he can carry in his car as long as it is in enclosed case. And he is not a felon and he can do this without a permit. It is very easy to get a concealed permit which will keep him or anyone else from getting int trouble for concealed carry. Plus the florida concealed weapons permit is widely recognized and acceptable in many states. Maybe the most widely recognized permit. I think they are up to 22 states now. www.packing.org is a great site to get your local state laws.
