Mine shifht hard 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 1st first thing in the morning when it hasn't warmed up yet. Once the tranny warms it shifts fine.

It's a syncro thing I know but it seems weird that it only does it cold. I've been driving an MT for over 25 yrs & the symptoms are the syncro's going out but I've never had it do it just when cold on any other car.

Sync's went out on my Z31 around 200k miles. It took some getting use to but I adjusted my driving for it.

I'm not sure if I should complain to the dealer about it or not.

At around 1500 miles, I used to get locked out of 2nd gear alot after a hard launch. Once the revs died down, I could finally get in gear.

i find that with the Z, patience is king. hear me out.

i have an 05 Z, 6 speed duh!

i find my car shifts smoothest from 1-2-3 when i let off the gas completely before clutching-in. then i quickly slide the shifter to N and push it in the next gate...but not very hard. after a milisecond delay i will feel the shifter slide in like a hard "you know what" into a "you know where"!

now this doesnt work well if you want to power shift or drag race.....but for 95% of my driving it really helps. when i started i used to just clutch in and slam in the next gear and it would be real tough and a jerky shift.

I'm sure many can relate. You don't have to drive hard for problems to arise, and you don't have to powershift either. That's something I don't do, but I do let off the throttle a bit between shifts when I drive hard.

hey its been 7000 ks since my last post on this thread my Z had all the probs here, when it was cold i'd hear alot of noise and my 1st and 2nd has always been notchy
i dont think that puttin more ks/miles is gonna fix the prob, when i shift from 1st to 2nd my foot is still on the gas a lil it helps makin it a bit smoother but if i shift normally without my foot on the gas i can feel how tough the 2nd is, and sometimes very rarely like enthuziastdrive it would go in supersmooth like gummy.

just rev it every time to at least 4500rpm before shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, it should engage like a hot knife thru butter....the Z is sports cars, it likes to be driven hard.

i drove a RX-8 for a yr b4, then i own a 06 350z weeks ago. i think the RX-8 shifter is quite smoother than 350z. maybe it's better to change it with a short shifter for fast shifting.

speaking of 1st to 2nd, does anyone experience a click when shifting from 1st to 2nd? It's not quite a grind, unless i'm listening to the wrong thing. Its always worse for the first 10 minutes or so.

when shifting from 1st to 2nd (pass 4K rpm), between the shift, my motor makes a loud whinning noise. this noise is apparent on all my gear shifts. i was wondering if its some sort of problem. ive had my '06 for less than a month with 1.5K miles. any1 with the same problem??

I am no authority on the subject, but during a spirite run from a stop, I will pull back and hold a slight bit pressure on the shifter while racing up to the redline in 1st. When I hit the clutch, the shifter just drops into second.

I too though have problems shift 1st to 2nd in many situations. I think its just one of the eccentricities of the Z.

i have absolutley no problems w/ the shifter. It used to suck but i think after beating on it a bit it just loosened up. Now its like butter whenever i shift. I can chirp 1-2 and sometimes 2-3.

i have a 2005. I know the 2005's have a much better tranny so maybe that is why?

Are you pulling my leg? The resistance is the force necessary to get the two gears, which are spinning at different speeds, to come to the same speed. The synchro is the mechanism that forces the gears to synchronize, but the force is supplied by the driver. At rest, the gears are already at the same speed.

I've never had a problem with second (except maybe when it's cold outside and the car's not warmed up). But sometimes it grinds or kicks me out of 5th under hard acceleration.
