Default Ok, possibly dumb question here.

What exactly does the (VDC) do? I'm thinking of buying an Enthusiast line and was wondering what this does, or if i should look into getting a model that has it.

I don't know the difference but it has been talked about on this forum if you search for it. I say its important to get at least TCS it has saved me more times than I care to admit... (ok 2 times)

VDC is a "yaw" control. If the car starts to slide sideways VDC kicks in to get the car back on path.

There is a tech discussion on the Nissan website.

thanks, yes i know the enthusiast doesn't have it. I was wanting to buy the lowest model that atleast has TCS, because there is no way in hell I'll buy a car without traction control but i thought i'd ask what the other does to see how useful it is. I'm thinking of buying the closest to bottom of line as i can so I can do my own mods without having them done and financed in.

There are several advantages to Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC). In an emergency situation (under or oversteering), VDC will recognize, and attempt to correct the problem. VDC can brake each wheel separately, and regulate power to the wheels. It tries to do what you're “supposed” to do. One minor disadvantage of VDC is that it cannot “see” ahead. If VDC applies the brakes, and there's a puddle of water ahead, VDC cannot “see” the puddle (at least not until one of the tires reaches the puddle).

BTW I don't have VDC.

I love VDC! It makes me look like I know how to drive. Countless times I have taken corners a little too fast and the minute the back end starts coming around the car pretty much corrects itself with minimal steering wheel input. The only time when it's annoying is if you are trying to do a quick 180.

Ahh, so its similar to the traction system I had on my 02 Z06. If I was losing control it would shut the engine down and apply breaks to help line the car back up. Thanks for the info, guess I'll have to see if dealers around me get in that have it on them.

i almost want vdc now... almost. Im glad i got enthusiast, it has everything i wanted in my 350. TCS still saves me when going around corners or or going through rain too fast. Also enthusiast has the Xenon headlights which i think make a huge difference.

The VDC is great and can be a life-saver in bad weather conditions. We all know how the Z can swing out in the rain too.

oh boy. my next car definitely needs VDC. It would have saved me from several close calls.

TCS would be nice too.

I have an enthu. so just TCS for me, and it is good enough, but then again I dont drive that crazy; and as mentioned above VDC can be good but not perfect and it might stab you in the back...

I would say go with en enthu. with just the TCS, but learn the car's limits in a safe environment, obviosly with the TCS off. You'll be fine.
