Default Flickering HID headlamp - what is cause?

My 2007 front left HID head lamp flickers, then goes out then come on and around and around we go as it sees fit.

Is this flickering telling me I need a new bulb? Or is it possibly the ballast or something else I'm not thinking about? Anyone else had this issue and what did you end up doing?

At the price of them, I want to be sure! Any suggestions on where to go for a bulb that is a reasonable cost as to the dealer?

The connector on the back of it is secure.
Thanks, Pat

Are these the original HID bulbs? Pull the lamp out and see if the little pea sized globe is dark brown... if that is the case, it could be the bulb.... I just did the 2 on my GF's G35 and it was just bulbs

You can also take a multimeter to the wire connectors to make sure a constant 12v is being supplied. Should rule out anything else apart from the headlight assembly.

Thank you all, I had (excuse the pun) a "Light bulb moment" last night.. trouble shooting 101 - switch bulbs! So I did, and the flickering moved with the bulb so it IS the bulb! Sorry to have bothered you all. And the bulb is a bit frosted..

I noticed these HID bulbs are 35W D2S, and cast a light blue colour. On eBay, there are many types/styles of 35W D2S bulbs... how do I know what is correct for my car?

How is it at all possible that the dealer (In Canada) charge $230.00 PER bulb, and you can get them for $10.00 on eBay and other places?
Thanks, you guys are great. Pat

Do not. I repeat do not buy an eBay bulb

Contact TRS for all your lighting needs. Go with nothing less then their D2s XB35 bulbs ($50) But they have even better depending on what you want to pay

China bulbs are CHEAP... and will not run as long due to cheap , low quality, bad manufacturing... That being said they do work.. They will not cause a ballast failure BUT you will get MAYBE 1.5 years of service IF THAT....

You guys are cute

I've been doing retrofits long before I bought a Z

And you question a multimillion dollar retrofit business like TRS with the best customer service in the world for $50 bulbs.....but didn't question $10 bulbs?

Like I said they also sell plenty of different type of OEM bulbs if your wallet is not in question

I am not questioning an out fit like TRS, I'm asking for some sort of address/URL so I can buy from them. When I search TRS I get Land rover parts and am not sure just WHO TRS is. Pat

Not a problem, but again I must ask if you could kindly supply me the full URL (internet address) of this "TRS". When I do a search for it online I get a bunch of auto parts places that have "TRS" in it and don't want to go to the wrong place.

Philips, Osram, Sylvania, Morimoto, and even then, beware of counterfeit products. The OEM color temp is 4300k, which is best for vision.

That study is still up for debate. After a couple sets of 4300 OEM bulbs I went with the new XB35 5500k and have not looked back. The 4300 is so dull

In actuality, I think you're probably right. I have 5000k Philips and prefer them, too. Just didn't want to see the OP buy some stupid-*** purple bulbs, and also he may want to match the other good bulb.
