Default Problems with my 35th anniv 10,500 mi.

was driving my 350z and a wierd thing happened. the vdc was off and i was at 3000 rpm and the car bogged was down the slip light came on and stayed on as well as my service engine soon light. my car would not rev at all and would barly go down the road. i pulled the neg terminal and the slip light went out and the engine light stayed on. it runs fine "fingers crossed" but would anyone have an idea of what this could be.

sounds like safe mode as mc350z mentioned. the manual says to turn off the ignition for few minutes and then back on - the lights should go off. if they don't, the dealer needs to check it.

Ditto on that. That happened to me when I put the first p&p throttle body on which had a bad tps as it turns out. The good folks at 350evo sent me another one, along with proper reset proceedures, and worked me through setting it back right. Been kickin' *** and taking (car model) names ever since . . .

Get an OBD2 reader and check it out.

Mine did the same thing. Had a double TPS error code.

thanks guys, for the help. that seems reasonable to be in safe mode the car seems to be running fine now, however the check engine light is still on. its goin into nissan tommarow to find out what code got thrown and have it reset, i may goto 350evo if you guys think that a better idea cause they are right down the street from my house. i dont want nissan to come back and say i did something wrong and void my warranty. I hate fighting with dealerships.

Then don't take it there. Take it to autozone and they can tell you the code and clear it for FREEEEEEEEE!

Stay away from the dealership as much as possible!

Yep I agree with that one. Stay away from the dealership. Autozone employees need something to do anyway!

you can reset it yourself if you use the procedure on www.technosquare.com

ok took it to autozone and the guy was real cool about looking at it and was like nice mazda rx8, . im not kidding... anyway he plugged into the port and found a tps sensor error code and something with voltage between a & b correllation. not sure but he also said he wasnt able to reset the code that nissan had to or i had to. wondering if something actually failed this might be the cause of the slight hesitation when i get into the throttle... i unfortunately have an appt with nissan for tom. any further advice would be appreciated.

the code is the throttle position sensor (I think code P2135). I can clear the code with my pocketlogger, as I have thrown this code before, so I don't know why he couldn't? Anyways, you may have a bad TPS (throttle positions sensor) which is not uncommon with this car. Do a search and you will see. Nissan should replace the part

What the A&B correlation is, is that there is a set range of voltage readings. a certain voltage translate to a certain throttle position. You most likely had a voltage reading out of the set range and the ecu could not translate that into a throttle position.

The MIL light might be off, but the code is still there. You'll get to wait for a new Thottle body ! Hurray ! (ie: I'm waiting for one, they are BO...)

The voltage correlation works like this. 2 sensors read the thottle position. One read from fully closed to fully openned and the other goes from fully open to fully closed. The sum of both voltage should be constant (or close to constant).

Awesome cause im waiting on new rear axles too they are on BO. YAHH... i told the tech what the OBII reader said and that the light went out he was saying that im not trained to read that device must've read it wrong its prolly the gas cap coming loose. I seriously almost went into a murderous rage... We had words! he actually tried to car smarts bully me, he was like are you a technician, I asked him how many custom turbo kits or hes built or experiance swapping motors, i straight told him to shut up and get the head service tech guy. Things went better...

My car did the same thing but only on start up. Same exact thing, no rev, both lights and SES light. Couldn't even get to second gear. Took it to Victory Nissan where they had their best mechanic work on it and after waiting 4 hours, they replaced my TPS.
The SES light went on for me for the first incedent and then went out after a couple of days for almost a month, then I got my car fixed. No problems since.

My 35th (<6000 miles) did the exact same thing today... I took it to the dealership, and they are checking the throttle body... I overheard them talking about the Maximas having the same issues, as they have the same sensors. I've been without her for 2 hours, and I'm already going into withdrawal...

I got it back today, they saw the thrown code but nothing was fixed, and my axles still on BO. so the dealership has had my car for 2 days now and nothing was fixed. i call last night said they are in the middle of working on it..... middle of what pluggin into the OBII port and reading the lil box... then according to the manifest no other labor was done...... NONE. So they say the problem is fixed awesome. I really hate nissan dealer service, im ready to go back to toyota. Ive had a few problems with them so far and i can see it getting worse but ill rant another day.

Verdict:
So 2 days without my 350 and 1 new scratch later all that was accomplished was a code was cleared which i could have done in 5 minutes!

just as a lil edit! i asked what couldve caused the problem and other than "i dont know" was the responce performance oriented driving or racing. Im not saying i dont race but damnit just cause im a young kid who can afford a nice car doesnt mean i beat the **** out of my 40000 sports car.

It's so hard to find good mechanics these days...

Hey, I'm also waiting for a rear axle ! Quite funny... We should band togheter and start putting some pressure on Nissan to get the parts shipped !
