Default Has your Z every gotten broken into??

I'm just curious if any people out there had their Z broken into and had their stereo equipment stolen?? My last two cars have gotten broken into. The last car had a car alarm, but it was a passive stock alarm. Whoever broke into it, didn't open the door (just climbed through the window) so the alarm never went off.

I'd like to start upgrading my stereo equipment, but I'd rather not have everything stolen again.. I would think this car would be better since you have to take out the entire center console just to get to the head unit.. I'd rather not put in an alarm system, since it already has a stock one.

What do you think??

None of my cars have ever been broken in to, BUT I always follow certain precautions to hopefully help keep it that way.

1. Get the aftermarket alarm! Stock alarms are typically not that great, and usually don't have the same types of sensors. Remember, if a thief really wants your stereo, they are going to get it! What you want to do is try to get them to pass your car up. An alarm is a good way to do that. I would get, at minimum, a shock sensor, hood and trunk pins, and have the door pins wired. On my personal alarm, I have the 2-stage shock sensor and also a 2-stage perimeter sensor. And I am going to have the tilt sensor installed also, to help protect the wheels.

2. Always park under a light if possible, and near people. Thieves don't want to be seen, so if you park in an area where there are constantly people walking by, this will help your chances of not being broken in to.

3. Turn your stereo down! If you are going to leave your car at the movie for 2.5 hours, you don't want to 'advertise' the fact that you have a stereo system by blasting it on your way into the parking lot. The same goes with stickers. Chances are, if you have a giant JL Audio sticker in your window, you will have some JL Audio gear in your car.

Nobody wants to have their stereo stolen, but there are scumbags out there who are going to try, and, like I said, if they really want it, they will get it. But, if you take a few precautions, you can encourage them to move on to an easier target.

Also, the theif doesn't have to take the whole center console out. They will just break the dash out. Don't be fooled in to thinking that your car is too difficult for them, so they'll pass it up. They are stealing your property; they are NOT going to be respectful about how they do it!

I've lived in Chicago, San Diego, Los Angles, and Seattle before moving to Riverside and have never had my car broken into.

I lock my car's doors.

I roll my windows up.

I don't advertise.

I have an alarm and use it - there's always a blinking light to let the thief know it's there.

I never leave jack in the open in the car - not a dime, not an empty bag, not $1500 worth of CD's. Slide that stuff under the seats or put it in the glove compartment.

Can we install shock sensors on our factory alarms or anything? My cousin added one to his IS300 keeping the factory alarm.

I haven't had mine broken into yet and I advertise with my radar but I remove it when I know threre's a possibility something may happen in that area. One time I had a class with a window overlooking the Z and I didn't put the top up and I forgot to remove the radar. I saw some guy walking near the Z and looking at it funny but he walked away. I then realized I forgot to stash my radar detector. I ran downstairs and put it away and all was good.

Here's another tip for those of you who park your Z in a driveway:

Rather than drive up and park into your driveway, back the car in so that the front of the car FACES THE STREET.

Why? Because the potential thief's face will be exposed to all of your neighbors and any person or car (especially a police car) that is in the vicinity.

With the car pulled straight in, the thief has the comfort of being anonymous..not the case with the car in the opposite direction!

Another plus is that it's easier and safer to drive forward from your driveway, rather than backing out anyway!

Probably the simplist thing to prevent stereo theft is to take the faceplate off.

sigh

My 95 Integra was broken into twice in a single month about 6months ago. I had an Alpine alarm on it and nothing was ever stolen - just broken windows

Last Thursday, I was staying at my girlfriends place (brand new, really nice) and park the Z in the parking deck guest section. It's well lit but not a whole lot of people traffic around. I wake up Friday to ANOTHER broken window and lots of scratches and #$##$ed moldings. Once again, nothing stolen (except the 70 cents in my change compartment). Every compartment in the Z was opened so they were looking for something - not sure what, I don't have an aftermarket headunit or subs or anything yet.

Nissan quoted me at over $1000 for the window, side mirror, moldings, etc.

Thanks a lot a-holes.

I know I'm getting towards the fine line of "wrong forum", but what are some good alarm systems? I saw a few people mention compustar. Are they any good? Who sells em?
