Default Tire howling...how can you tell?

I have a SB '05 Entusiast and i'm beginning to worry about this sound i'm getting from the car.

When i am driving at around 80mph, and step on the gas with consistent pressure (coasting) i hear this high pitched howling coming out of the front of my car. When i release the gas pedal, the sound stops. Should i check my alignment? Do any of you guys know what that noise is and how to remedy it?

Thanks in advance

I hope that this isnt a new topic, especially for an 05 Enth.

i have a LA 04 touring and ive experienced the same problem. however, it didnt happen very often so i just let it slip from my mind and i didnt take care of it. but about 2-3 weeks ago i got a letter from nissan addressing '03 - early '04 models with tire howling and said that they would extend the warranty and reimburse people who had bought new tires due to the problem. it didnt say anything about the '05, but id get it checked out anyway.

it shouldnt be your tires. Sounds like it's your air intake. The tire howling shouldn't be dependent on your gas pedal, but should be dependent on your vehicle speed.

tire roar: approx 35 mph and below, heard with deceleration. loud, 4x4 with monster-tires sounding noise.
you don't have tire roar, based on your description.

Definitely not tire related unless you are running real low on air pressure or something. I would say it is your intake.

You'll know when it's tire related...no doubt about it, and it is most perceivable at 30mph or below. I had howling similar to what you described (while accelerating at higher speeds), and it only happened in 5th gear. The noise went away once I released the gas pedal. I narrowed the problem down to the transmission, and told the dealership about the weird whining and howling noise that changed pitch with the change in rpms. After spending an hour or so evaluating the vehicle, they informed me that they would replace my transmission!

My new transmission does not have any of the whining or howling.

That was not the response I was looking for as I am almost 100% positive they are going to tell you it is normal. I just hope they don't scratch your wheels or try and charge you for their inconvenience like many dealers do.

I notice that the engine has a high pitched whistle at rpm's over 4000rpm... but that's just the intake making its sweet music.
