Well, I got the estimate for my dent. I was very surprised at the estimate. The old thread on how it happened is located here. Needless to say, thank god it's not coming out of my pocket or my insurance, because I wouldn't be a happy camper. If this "little" dent is this much, I wonder how much it'd be to fix everything else!?! The two estimates I received are $957 and $1012.

I just came back from the body shop, Jill. My estimate's $1142, even with my dent being a bit bigger.

Crazy! Your dent is SO much bigger than mine. The reason it's so expensive - there is the dent in the picture in the other thread, which was estimated at an even 500 - then the guy noticed three pencil point dots on my bumper right below the mark on my hood, and he said that they're definitely related, so he's gonna fix that too. Those three little dots cost another 500 bucks!!!!!!

 

Sure hope this works out for you, I had a truck run into my car, and without a police report, the trucking kept giving me the runaround. When I had a lawyer friend call for me, they settled RIGHT AWAY. BTW, in case your wondering why I didn't call myself (I'm a lawyer), I have found that companies treat you more seriously if you don't represent yourself, even if you're a lawyer.

Also gotta give some props to Roberto350Z, in your originally thread, this was his quesstimate:

I'd say he pretty much nailed it.

 

I got three little dents in my rear that i gotta get fixed...soeone must've backing into me or something. Im taking my baby to the best place in town, but my wallet is wincing.

 

ZGirl and Old Skooler, just make sure that your body shops know you expect them to do a perfect job painting it. If not, you'll notice it everytime you look at it.

 

This is a great body shop. My friend got her old integra, slk230 and sebring done there, so i trust 'em. Their work is amazing, and they'll only need the car for 3-5 days. The first thing I said to them was, "You won't have a problem EXACTLY matching the paint, will you?" and he was very very positive, and went on and told me how they do it, so I trust 'em. Thanks though!

 

on the illegal front.


you can always call the police report the damage as a hit and run then have it fixed through your insurance. you wont be charged for the accident and your insurance wont rise.

by the way i had soup for dinner then saw i had no clean bowls

i dont want to scare you, but it will not look good...

i have my car at the BEST paint and body shop here in dallas, and they have had 3 days to get the color right on the DB. hopefully tomorrow will be the day they can get it perfect.

check this out:

they used the Nissan B17 paint code from 2 of their paint suppliers. neither were even close when sprayed on the test panels, and put next to the car. since then, they have redone the mixture 8 times, and are really close (well they have it down to as bad as it comes stock on the platic pieces.)

everytime i am there, people ask me if the car is there to get the stock bumpers repainted.. i tell them that is factory paint.. and they drop jaws...

i am not having them blend in the new nismo pieces because it will look bad on a three stage paint like the DB. also, i dont want to ruin the factory paint on the metal pieces, as it is really really nice.

anyway, on to the subject of your hood...

without giving out identities, i went with 2 other Z guys today to get an estimate on damage to one of their hoods... the dent is way bigger than yours, but both paint shops giving quotes said the aluminium hood could not be rivet-pulled back into shape. they said it had something to do with aluminium not have "memory" like normal sheet metal.. in other words, it will weaken and look like crap when the bang it back into shape. both shops said a new hood had to be ordered... i know the hood is about $350-400...

now including a new hood, painting, and blending into the fenders would cost 1000-1100. this is similar to what you guys are getting quoted now... maybe they are getting new hoods for you also??!? if not, you are getting hosed.

i agree.. way too high - i'd just replace the hood - it's not a hard job, and they're not that expensive... at least i hope they're not. go carbon fiber!

 

Man, now you guys are worrying me. Anyone know if their insurance company will just cut me a check and I can get the repairs and parts elsewhere (actually replace the $hit instead of fixing it like they're going to do?) or does their insurance company cut the check to the body shop?

 

I think the only way that can be answered is to call their insurance company and ask. Some insurers will just pay out and let you deal with it, some won't.

 

the insurance companys sends a dude to your house. looks over the damage then cuts you a check for the damage on the spot .

this is done with a lot of big companies you should call and ask them to send an estimater to your sweet futuristic apartment.

once you get the check its yours you can buy candy and drugs or fix your car

by

1, reaparing damage
2, \buying new parts ..
hood. on your own

 

I advised a friend who got in a bad accident to get the check and fix everything but the hood that was only unnoticeably damaged. The money she saved by not fixing the hood paid off the deductible!

now in YOUR situation, you may be tempted to get the check and find somewhere to do it cheaper. Just make sure theyre gonna use PPG paint and check other work to make sure theyre good.

Or use the money to take an auto body class, a paint gun and a compressor...(used)

Or, since youre in school (I think) pocket the check and fix it later, meanwhile by some touch up paint.

LOL...no, but honestly, the big part is 500 and there's three little speckles that are 500 that i can hardly see, so they really aren't worth fixing. I'd rather get a completely new hood and just leave the three speckles there since i can't see 'em anyway. And yes, both estimates I got, they'd be using the PPG paint, and my friend has had several of her cars repaired there, so I know it's all good. Thanks!
