Question Would you rather shave weight off your Z or add raw horsepower?

^_^

(in my opinon) If theoretically I can get the Z to 1 ton with stock hp then thats 300 bhp per ton which is Enzo Ferrari territory ...

Your opinion?

Reduce weight because at the same time of improving power:weight, you also improve handling. just my .02.

Adding raw HP is much more "oh crap" feeling, but for a real, all around road going machine, you need to reduce weight to make it perfect. I can tell the difference simply having a friend in the car and not.

Edit: One of the neet things about the modular scene is that when you try to lighten your car, you usually do it by removing things or exchanging them out for something better (AKA - a new exhaust. The new exhaust is not only wider pipes allowing for better flow, but will also weigh slightly less).

Weight loss. Im a huge purist, so getting the car down to a lower weight, the power will become "oh crap".

Do you have any weight-loss mods done to your car? I'd love to hear a list if you do.

i could not possibly imagine how you could get this car to 2000lbs and still have any driving comfort or safety. throw a turbo kit on it and do simple weight savings and you would end up with a good well rounded street car.

No, I do not. But the starter ones would prolly be trying to get a hold of CF body panels...even if our body is alum, weight can be lost. Stuff like sound deadening, plastics in the interior, spare wheels, lighter wheelers and parts like that (moddable parts, what have you). Anything that is made to a higher degree than the stock part is USUALLY lighter. I believe several members on this site have tried reducing the weight...

A great first mod is a lighter clutch/flywheel combo..may be mine as well. And the EVo rear.

Yea best way is to do both.
So far, I've lightened my Z's weight while adding power.
First, I got light weight clutch/flywheel, then took the spair tire out.
To add more power, I've installed Pop Charger and tomorrow NISMO
exhaust, which will make my car a bit lighter AND give me more hp.

How much do you weigh and what are the numbers you are pulling?

Default Both kind of.

I have no desire for add-ons (such as fiberglass body parts) which increase weight, but add no performance function.

Car is under 3K lbs with roll bar and 14" BBK (1/2 tank of gas). HP is pretty minimal, but my drivetrain, suspension, and weightloss more than make up for it at the track

both are very expensive. But i guess i would start by shaving weight first, until warranty is off. then i would start making the F/I modifications.

That is my .02 cents.
