I came across this article after much research on diferent types of oil and interval change periods. Thought it was quite interesting...

Yeah, I have seen that article a couple time before since I own and visit the LS1 boards at times. It is a good read. I still replace my syn every 5K cause I like the oil nice and clean. Look at it this way..... It's cheaper to replace the oil and filter than one tank of gas.
Plus it is generally a year before I can get more than 5K on my sports cars. You need to think about the six months or part of the equation. I do not think that a year is too long with the same oil if the mileage is as low between oil changes.
My motors look like new when you open them up.

ive always used mobile 1 every 3-5k in all my cars. This article just re-inforces my belief in this stuff. I never had any engine problems from my 91 mustang GT, 300zx, 98 camaro ss, and now my 04 Z. Good stuff and worth the extra few bucks.

first time i have actually heard that one! still, no matter what i read or is "disproved" in the future, every 5K change for my baby.
The Blackstone reports on the VQ35 (on M1 or anything else for that matter) do not trend like that report on the LS1.
On the VQ35, going over 5K without alot of increased wear is tricky. It *can* be done, but isnt for most people's driving conditions. There are plenty of oil reports on our cars floating around (including the ones I have shared). I see alot of these articles on oil and break-in that seem to defy conventional wisdom. I dont question their methodology or results, but for our cars it appears to follow much more conventional trends, the trends you'd expect.

That kinda good to hear. At least I won't feel like I am wasting my money on changing oil. I generally check the color of the oil when I am draining it. If it is black, I have waited too long. If it is carmel, I figure I got it right.

I just bought some Amsoil XL 0W-30. Cost was about $11 a quart after shipping. The stuff is probably no better than Mobil 1, but I want to see if it will help with my oil consumption problem.
