Default 2006 mpg and weight

Why is it that the 06 coupe mpg drops to 19 city and 25 highway when 05 coupe got 20 city 26 highway?

The 05 roadster which weighed 3480 lbs got 20 city and 26 highway, which weighs about 120 lbs more than the 06 coupe. So shouldn't the 06 coupe get 20 city and 26 highway if the 06 coupe weighs less than the 05 roadster?

Did Nissan have to update the way they calculate their weight? Kind of like how some auto makers calculate HP by using SAE J1349 JUN1995 rather than SAE J1349 AUG2004?

So I'm assuming that the 06 coupe didn't increase in weight by 150 lbs but all 350z weighed that much but nissan fudged the weight numbers like it does with the hp rating?

didnt the 35th anniv only get that mpg. its cause of the rev up engine.

mpg numbers arnt worth much anyway, just ballparks really. its really all in how you drive the car. the organization that regulates/establishes those numbers have been under criticism for their tests not reflecting real driving conditions, habits ect.

It may have something to do with the Rev Up engine in the 06's. That's the only thing I could think of.

I usually get between 16-18 in the city (I have a heavy foot in the city) and 25-28 mpg on the highway. But yes, it probably has to do with the 300hp engine. Check and see if auto's have the same MPG.

The 2006 Z® utilizes Nissan’s “Zone Body” construction, providing front and rear “crush” zones and a secure center occupant zone. The Z®’s body structure has been designed to create a high degree of structural and torsional rigidity. Key features include a double-panel floor, a double front bulkhead and large-section doorsills.

I wonder if this caused the increase in weight.

I think this was there in the 2003-05 models as well. At least according to this article in 03.
