Default Car damaged at the dealership during service

Hey, all. I had my car in for an oil change and to reseat my battery on Wednesday. They took a little while to get my car back to me after I paid out, which I had assumed was because they lost my keys temporarily. When I got my car back, I was very pleased to find that they had washed my car including vacuuming out the interior. Nissan has never cleaned my car before while getting an oil change.

Thursday morning I noticed what appeared to be bird **** on the front of my hood, but I paid it no mind. It was the first time I had looked at my hood since going into the dealer. This morning I took a closer look at it, and I've got the equivalent of two major door dings on the hood that have gone through the paint. They're about 6 inches apart from one another. It looks like someone dropped something on my hood, and on a black car it's quite an eye sore.

I'm 99% sure this happened while my car was being serviced as my car is garaged at home and at work I park in the garage face forward to a wall. The only realistic time for this to happen this week was at the dealership. Is it even worth my time to call up the service dept and tell them about this? I have no way of proving that they are responsible.

Your right. Lessons to be learned here. Do your own oil changes and battery seatings. Always check over your entire car before signing anything and leaving the dealership. Depending on how much that dealership wants to keep your business you might be able to get them to fix it. Its worth a shot if you don't mind some headaches.

Yeah, you're exactly right. I guess I'm going to get some touch-up paint and go back to hating myself for not paying more attention. Thanks for the response.

To say to never go into the dealership for service is pretty ridiculous. I agree that less time in a dealership is better. However, you can avoid any problems by doing a once-around and a thorough visual inspection before you drive your car off the lot after the service was done on your vehicle. Some have found some damages, and some have not. But if you can see it on the spot before even driving their car back home, you can let the dealership know right away, and they really wouldn't be able to say anything other than to pay the consequences.

Rule of thumb: ALWAYS check and inspect your vehicle thoroughly on the spot after it was taken in for service, no matter how busy you may be to get out of there.
