Exactly, around 60mph and a flat road, and readout is 34-35 mpg. Filled her up today, and on the freeway I got 34-35mpg for about 10 miles, then drove 25 miles in the city, and by the time I got to my garage, i was at 31.5 mpg. Shifts at or before 2K RPMs, and gradual acceleration. Just a test to see if this car can truly maintain 30+mpg in the city.
On a trip to MA (about 140 miles) I average around 25.9 mpg. Keep in mind, this was the DAY I got the car, so I may have been driving 75-80 most of the time, with a few spirts to 120+ or so.
In town I get around 22.5-23. I get into 6th ASAP unless I am playing.

For a few weeks I was fortunate enough to be able to use the same exact gas pump for 4 or 5 fillups, which made a nice control for my gas mileage hand calculations. I just let the pump kick off by itself and did not top off. The other nice thing was that the ambient temperature was pretty steady over those fillups, so presumably pressure within the gas tank was about the same each time. I also reset the mpg meter each time. Anyway, I calculated my gas mileage by hand using the difference in odometer reading from fill to fill divided by the amount of gas pumped in each fill, and the numbers I calculated were all within about 2.00% of the mpg readout each time. Based on that, I am pretty confident that the mpg meter is accurate enough not only for observing a gas mileage trend over a long period of time, but also to provide your actual average gas mileage.
I'm an engineer by trade and I always like to know that machines I own are operating properly and at reasonable efficiency. At the same time I bought this car because I wanted to have some fun in my mid to late 20's. That mpg meter readout is a blessing and a curse. For the first two months owning the car I always had the mpg on screen but then I started obsessing about it and driving like grandma, so now I have it set to outside temp all the time. Can't change the weather

Most of my driving is around town also - and I average 21+ , but I am only "heavy on the foot" when some BMW guy wants to get cute. Those little roller skates seem to be coming out of the woodwork in this area. I also dont top tank and compute after each fill-up. Two years ago we went to Colorado for a month - 3500 miles- got 27 MPG - which included every mile we drove. We spent 5 days in Denver and some driving around Colorado Springs - so some in town driving. I'm very happy with the mileage - for the power and zip I have when I want it.
I did a 10 mile loop to do a mpg test. At 55mph 2100 rpm got 28 mpg. At 60 mph 2250 rpm got 26.7 mpg. At 66 mph 2500 rpm got 25.5 mpg. I'm sure driving 75 to 80 would diminish my mpg a lot more, how do any of you get in the 30's? It's a 03 with a man.
Do you really? 2005 bump, do a search on "mpg." Welcome, take a few moments to walk through this site and see what's around. Check the original post date as well.
Thats what I get in the city. If its all Hwy driving I get around 27 or so but I drive around 70-80mph depending on location/traffic etc.
I get 20-21 around town.
When I drive from Charlotte to Cincinnati and back (through mountains, avg 70mph) I get about 27mpg. Its very similar to my last 4 cyl turbo Passat. But with much, much more power

i've had my car almost 9 years now
my experience has been as follows:
I used to commute 60 miles to and from work. no traffic there, but light to heavy traffic on the way back. Did this for a year.
With that type of commute I was able to hit an average of 22-25MPG
I've also tried to do the slow and steady to win the MPG race. I did a test and got 27MPG in a week's commute.
About two years ago I relocated 7 miles away from work, with all city driving.
For the first year I continued to try to squeeze some extra MPGs and I was able to get the MPG to stay at about 20MPG. During weekends I would take some long trips on the open highway, and that helped the MPG.
Now this past year I have had the pleasure in driving another car on the weekends and I kept the Z as the daily commuter to work, doing all city driving. In fact I only put in 4000 miles in it so far this year. With this short commute I have been changing my driving style. My old objective was to be as economical as possible, and my new objective is to try to keep the Z in its power band. 3500rpm to 5500rpm is where the Z does its job the best. Although I'm now averaging about 16 to 18MPG, I have come to realize the difference in MPG is not worth the Big difference in performance and feel. The car just drives better in its power band. You feel the increase in the feel of the tires and suspension, throttle response is increased, and shifting becomes a lot smoother.
And at the end of the day, I think my Z loves me more when I drive it like it was made for.

Sorry. My point I guess is that mileage should be figured over at least a full tank
because everyones mileage will be different - different car, different driving styles, different types of roads over that full tank. Given that, you see a lot of the same/close MPG's in these threads, also a few extremes. Only thing that matters is if the MPG you get work for you. I don't even keep track except on track days or the Dragon where I see how low I can go, lol.
Merry Christmas!

GEEZ..I get around 17 ave combined city/hwy. I do drive aggressively though. Best HWY was 24ish.

This was done using cruise just to see the difference in mph and rpm to mpg.. If the car was geared much higher I could then cruise in 5th or 6th which ever rpm I desired.
You guys get great MPG! I don't have much of a heavy foot but I still manage to get mediocre gas milage. City/highway I average 18.8 mpg and I don't use the on board computer. I calculate the amount of miles I actually traveled divided by how many gallons I used to fill up.
