Default Question about 05

Im thinkin about gettin a 05 base Z this weekend and i would like to know whats in the enthu, touring, track, and grand touring, that makes it have 300 horses and base 287 horses. different intake?

totally differnt engine... go for the 300 fi uc an afford it...

in 05 only the performance and anniversary had 300. 06 all models with 6mt have 300 and 5AT are 287

No, only the Track, 35th anniversity, and GT models had the 300 hp. The rest had 287.

To answer your question, the 300 HP version has VVTC, which allows the engine to adjust cam timing of both the intake and exhaust cams. The 287 HP version has it only on one side (I can't for the life of me remember which but I think it's intake.). While you gain some top end power, from what I understand you sacrifice some mid-range torque. If you subscribe to the "area under the curve" philosophy, the 287 CHP version is better.
