Don't rely on the damn car for your MPG...do it yourself!!!
I get 19-22 city and 26-28 highway with 93oct. fuel
Ditto here. We did a month long 3500 mile round trip to Colorado last year, averaged 27 mpg - that was hard expressway 70 to 85+ and city driving while staying around Copper Mountain and Colorado Springs. Left the -checked the gallonage at end of trip. Alwlays 35 psi for tires - ac on most of time ( we are used to that in AZ ). Around city here I get mostly 21+, I zip once in a while, but have learned to ship at lower rpm's - slow down when I see a yellow light 1/2 block ahead - trying to avoid using brakes ( and saving as as well ). My drive to work is 7.5 miles - slower trafffic . Actually I have been surprised at the mileage for the amount of zip and power I often use. I only fill tank when below 1/4 mark or even at bottom mark ( hate seeing that yellow light come on! ) ALWAYS have used 93 octane - Texaco if available. ( No, not a stockholder )

actually, in tests, Chevron have always shown to be the best burning fuel, and the cleanest burning fuel on the market...I know this cuz my cousin works for 76 or 66 Oil and they test fuel from different gas companies each year and compare them...

I have a 5AT and I drive about a total of 10 rush-hour freeway miles a day and 7 city miles in stop and go, get the hell out of the way San Francisco traffic... Coincidentally, my meter reads 17.1 mpg.

On weekends, when I work in San Jose (about 45 miles away), my reading jumps up to around 18+ mpg, averaging about 75-80mph. The average is pushed by an increased mpg of maybe 25+ in my guess-timation.

On a road trip to LA with AC on, I averaged 27mpg with an average speed of 85mph or so....

Most of the time I use Chevron but 76 has been cheaper lately. Highest octane here is 91.

A mechanic once told me to use Chevron because "Techron" makes the fuel burn slower... Not sure how true that is? Anyone heard that before?

I only use Cheveron, Exxon, Mobil, Shell, Amoco, and Texaco gas...
It seems like a lot of places but sometimes I have to drive for miles to find one.

Turning on the AC does not affect your gas mileage. Your average speed and driving style (accelerator control, shift points, deceleration) have the most impact. Putt around town, I average 25mph, get up to 23 mpg. Drive on the freeway, I get 27-28 mpg. The overdrive on MT 350z (6th) is not like a lexus IS300 6 speed (1.00 gear ratio is 4th gear, so 5th and 6th are overdrive) where 6th gear is actually a second overdrive. So our gas mileage on the freeway is not going to be hugely better than city driving. The IS300 on the other hand, you will want to stay away from 6th gear in city driving (max 45 mph), and that's why it can get significantly better gas mileage on the freeway than it does in the city.

FYI: 1.00 gear ratio means your driveshaft spins as fast as your motor. Less than 1, your driveshaft spins faster, higher than 1 your motor spins faster.

just filled up, $53 for 17.5 gallons of 93oct. I got 355miles out of my last tank so I figure i'm averaging about 20mpg. Mixed stop n'go traffic driving and highspeed (90ish) freeway driving. 33psi <--- I think i'm bout to go bring it up to about 38 tho.

I can get anywhere from 6.9mpg on a tank (errr.... so I'm driving in circles every 1m30s or so ) all the way up to almost 32mpg (over 40psi in the tires). Usually will average around 21mpg or so.

Get up to high gear as soon as possible, avoid using brakes, use engine braking (it shuts down the injectors completely, above at least 2000rpm hot), premium fuel, lots of air in the tires. If you dare, try 0W-30 or thinner.

Do u have any mods done to the car? If u do u have to wait for the ECU to adjust to it then ur MPG will go up. After I got my headers and exhaust done I was down to 15mpg. Then after a while it went to 19 and stayed there. For hwy driving I average around 26mpg. And yeah if you drive it in manual mode u eat alot of gas.

Anyway,
I got my 5AT Z beginning of Sept. I used Regular gas for the first 2 times (was low on $ due to down payment, I know.. stupid)

I had 4/10th of a tank full when i put in 93 octane, and cleared my MPG (was 14.4 :O) to see if the 93 made any difference.

I drove around 10 miles or so at the average of 14 mph (city driving :x) and checked my MPG.. it was 14.6

I also checked my tires, they were at 30 all around. (btw whats the best tire PSI for daily driving?)

I dont understand why my MPG is so low, anyone have any suggestions?

My auto, i averaged 12s 13s with my driving style and btw im not talking quarter miles. So get used to that mileage highway gets better.

The best way to do it is have a spreadsheet or something, save your gas reciepts and write down the milage.

For the last 6 months combined, with 95% city driving i averaged 16.71 MPG on 94 Octane (10% Ethanol). This is the actual calculation, the in-car computer averaged better at 17.30, but fairly close.

You do sacrifice some gas milage if the fuel you use contains some ethanol, but it burns cleaner and has a noticable effect on an emissions test.
