Default Another great thing about the Z......

I don't know how many others think about this, but the Z is only one of a handful of automobiles remaining that has a true heritage. I like owning a car like that. Everyone knows a "Z".

Corvette, Mustang, Porsche 911, Mazda RX, Jaguar XK, VW Beetle, BMW M3 are the others I can think of.

There are obviously plenty of great cars to be had, but the Z has a history and has always had the same defined purpose.

That's something I love about it too, kind of like owning a piece of history. Since it's been around for so long, people of all ages [young and old] usually know what the "Z" is.

True, but that's a different issue entirely. Although, it has been my recollection through my years (I'm 39) that women have always liked the Z. It has always had a hot, sexy, cutting edge design for it's time. I remember back in 1989 when I had just started medical school. One of the doc's just bought a "new" 300ZX,and everyone was drooling over the looks of that car back then. At the time, it looked so modern, and so fresh.

when i was younger around 17 or so... i always dreamed of owning a Z or rx-7.
they were the titans of their time. along with the supra, nsx, etc. cars that do
have a true lineage and will always gain respect from true auto enthusiasts.

true heritage and lineage is something that is earned. years from now be they
still in production or not people will always refer to the z, rx-7, etc. now that
is something to be proud of.

I actually get annoyed with it. Everytime an adult talks to me about my car, they always had a "280Z" or Datsun Z back in their day. I'm only 19...I could really care less what they had 20 years ago..I think the old Z's are ugly as heck. I do like 300ZX's, but still, I could care less what other people had. For some reason almost EVERY adult male has to talk to me about old school Z's. I'm just like hm yeaa cool

That's why it's called Z heritage...I'm very proud to be young and own a Z so someday I can talk about it to the younger guys like the older guys talk about the Datsun 240Z.

You sound a little too arrogant for someone your age. People are trying to share a common experience. Have a little respect.

LOL...Thanks for the warning Andrew. If we ever meet, I will remember not to talk to you about the 280Z I had 20 years ago nor the 350Z I have now.

A Rep from a bank came to our office, she saw me leaving in my Z, she runs up, "I LOVE YOUR Z!" she then mentioned she has had about 4 over the course of her life, all years of the Z....she was about 40. I like the heritage too....

When I owned my 76 I was a frequent poster on classic Z site. Now, I have a 350z and everyone at the classic site could care less. Many of them say that only a 240z is a z and say the 350z is it's own line or an extension of the 300zx at best.

You dont see as much hatred by Corvette owners for newer models, why the Z? IMO the Z is a 35+ year heritage and the best selling sports car of all time.

I'm sorry that I came off that way....certainly did not intend to. I'm sure you've had similar things happen to you too. For example, other people will initiate conversation with me about my car, then go off into how they have this civic that they did this and that to and they race it and blah blah blah.

It's just one of those things where you are just like yup<insert other persons conversation> yup thats cool <insert other persons conversation>. Where you just agree with everything they say because you don't particularly care. Wasn't trying to be ignorant. At my age, I know NOTHING about previoius Z's other than I see some quick when I go to the track. I could really care less about something I don't know anything about or have any motive to learn more. I bought my 350Z for ITSELF, not because of it's heritage. It is an awesome car.....

My last car, Sentra SE-r, '03, had a small legacy when I bought that one. I knew the Z's going into it. Ive always been a huge 240z/300zx fan, now I just have the kind that has a warranty lol

I get what Dream350Z is saying though... I mean I like the Heritage and going to meets, seeing old and new, etc. I like to talk about stories of racing and modding, etc. But alot of the old 2_0 Z guys don't really like 3_0 Z cars... or so it seems. They say, "oh ya I used to have a 280 Z, that thing was great it was so smooth and fun to drive" and I say "ya, it is a great heritage. They have always made great cars. When I was a teenager the 300Z's were around and MAN I WANTED ONE!!! And now that I can afford one, I got a new 350Z and it is so awesome. The power, the handling, it is unstoppable... blah blah." THEN!!! they say, "ya, the new one looks nice... but you should see how that old 280 handles! it is like a dream! etc etc like the new ones don't compare.

Anyway, it starts to become a competition, and any Z starting with the letter 3 doesn't compare with a Z starting with the number 2 LOL. And I am sorry, but if you wanna get technical and competitive... the 300/350 is more advanced, more capable (let's say stock vs. stock, Nissan 1970 vs Nissan 2005... not who has the best/most mods).

Point is, I totally see where Dream350Z is coming from. There are always bad apples.

its very true, Unlike the Mazda RX series. They went completely downhill, back in the day the RX-7TT was one of the most respected cars on the road, now the RX-8 is like a joke. Not because its a bad car but because the bar was raised to high. personaly I would think that car would be better/cooler if it wasnt an RX. Unlike Nissan, the Z has always raised the bar and then came back with a car that carries the torch nicely

Yes, I totally agree with you guys when people who owned the older "classic" models start to act as if they are somehow superior because they owned a Z before you did. But if someone has a genuine love for the car line, don't put them down. That's all. remember, however, that the Z has always had cutting edge design for it's time. I look at the 300ZX today and it looks old and dated, but in 1990, it was hot as hell.
