Hey everyone,

I got into an accident with my Z yesterday afternoon on the highway. A guy was trying to enter my lane from the left and prolly didn't realize I was RIGHT next to him, so he was about to hit me, so I tried to veer onto the shoulder, but I hit a patch of ice. The car skidded, did 2 360s and went and hit the side concrete barrier.

The impact was pretty damn hard, cuz the front axle broke, the brake pads broke in half. My glasses came off and I found em in the trunk, etc. But the airbags never opened.

I was wondering if I should bring this to Nissan's attention ... would it do anything?

Right now, I'm hoping the car had some frame damage so I can get a new one ...

Are you okay? Wow, none of the airbags deployed? I would definitely bring this to Nissans attention. You were obviously going pretty fast (you were on the highway), so I can't see why the airbags didn't go off. Again, I hope you're okay, and I'm sorry to hear about the accident.

 

Airbags aren't designed to go off on all impacts. I had a similar wreck to you about 3 years ago, and hydroplanned one into a guardrail both front driver side and rear passenger side, with no air bag deployment. I angled in, so there was no cause for the air bags to deploy.

I had to have a sub frame up front, I broke a strut, and pulled a tire off the wheel. Probably not quite as hard as yours, but just because it was a good lick doesn't mean the bags should have necessarily gone off. Sounds like you hit on the corner, so that may be why they didn't deploy.

This reminds me of how I drive: Assume that the other driver is moron and EXPECT him to do something stupid. This way, you're never surprised or caught off guard.
